  1. A few impressions of the #repair of my #Apple #PowerBook100 with lots of leaky caps. I had to open the HDD, too, to free the heads that were stuck in parking position. But now it boots again. I have to take a closer look at the LCD, though, the contrast is way too low and the potentiometer has no effect. Maybe the LA5316 is broken, or the leakage spread further than I noticed. I had to clean the side behind the caps in the picture, too. A replacement screen is no option, so I might have to abandon this project when I can't fix it. The #powersupply is beyond repair, and the battery is dead, too.

  2. And since I had my desoldering iron hot, I proceeded to an inspection and a partial recapping of the #Proteus/1 #rompler that sits next to the #Microverb. It was a wise choice. Many capacitors on the power supply were in bad shape and would not have survived much longer. There were even signs of leaks on the plastic sheet on the bottom of the case! #Recapping.

  3. I read this headline, and the first thing I thought was "oh hey, I wonder what old radios they recapped and fixed! I would watch that! They have awards for that, though? 🤔 "

  4. So, it begins...

I'm recapping a PowerMac 9500 that was given to me, buts appears DOA. Working my way from the outside areas where there are few components and practicing for the denser areas which I'll do later.

    7 of 43 done.

  5. Almost tried to install a 10000uF capacitor in place of a 1000uF capacitor.

I was only off by an order of magnitude...

    What could possibly go wrong...

  6. Today, I've started my first #recapping job of SMD caps on a Performa 475 logicboard. I've used "hot tweezers" from Reichelt.de and at least, I got them off the board. Only ~3 released their magic smoke, and I hope my room is usable again tomorrow :-)
Cleaning the board and reassambling it using tantalum caps will follow... ;-)

  7. New video! In the second part of the series, I'm trying to resurrect the Apple Macintosh Performa 630 Power Supply I found to have lots of leaky capacitors in the previous episode.

  8. New video! I'm starting to restore a very interesting Apple Macintosh Performa 630 in the DOS Compatible variant. It has both a 68040 Mac and an IBM compatible 486 PC in one machine. In the first episode of this series, I try to make it safe to run by replacing capacitors on the main board and in the power supply. More to come!

  9. Finally closing up the "Cubo" #AmigaCD32. I was procrastinating this for years, happy that I can finally stop worrying about leakage on these boards. I'll tackle the remaining A600 motherboards in time, but they've already got their caps removed and were cleaned, so no hurry. #recapping

  10. Time to begin the #recapping on one of the two #AmigaCD32 .
There is some leakage from the SMD caps here, but it seems minor for now. Two of the through hole caps are bulging though, and one seems to be expelling its contents from the top.
