  1. Under RISC OS sftp is apparently available via the PuTTY tools port, !ftpc (uses the old securesockets instead of AcornSSL 😞) , And an alpha-test WIMP app called SecureView .

    I'll have to investigate further.

  6. Hacked around on RISC OS FOCAL last night.

Just realized, as this is experimental, I should have made a git branch for it ...

Added uppercase function names to the symbol table, and then a clause in the expression parser that F* as well as f* get looked up in the table.

And it works... Until it stops working. Weird.

But I'm still crazy tired and I'd had a beer... I think I missed the Ballmer Peak.

  11. Turns out vector remapping doesn't stop a .. decent number of #riscos viruses from working. Because a good chunk of them are written in BBC BASIC.

    There's a love-hate relationship going on here.

  26. It was RISC OS night!

I was planning on playing with emulators but instead ...

Messed around with !grapevine trying to see if it can talk to Open Oscar servers. Doesn't seem likely, as it seems to lack any way to specify a server. OTOH I can't find a hard coded address either?

I have requested my old icq number from a server in Brazil, more on this when they respond.

Messed around with the email MTA, !antispam and finally got it to quit complaining about messages from 2023.

  31. Hah! I got the RISC OS port of GnGeo to work! (Neo Geo emulator)

...For the 1 Neo Geo game I ever play...

(Money Idle Exchanger, if you must know 😝)

The secret is, you must manually copy the rc file from the game dir to /gngeo in !unixhome. Then gngeo will have key bindings!

Mapping in my cheap usb gamepad so I can use it is going to be a slog for another night.

No pics, i was hacking and now I need to eat and then go to bed.

  36. This is neat: RISC OS Direct for Pi 5 — riscosdev.com/projects/risc-os

It runs RISC OS directly on top of Raspberry Pi OS, without installing it as a new OS. It has a few problems: no sound, and I can't find the quit button, but it's way less hassle than dedicating a Raspberry Pi to this quaintly weird OS.

  41. Grrr I couldn't get mednafen under RISC OS to work.

Probably because the binary dates back to 2013 and isn't ARM 7 compatible.😞

Edit: copy the rcfiles into !unixhome and then it'll work.

This is what the error "sdl is not configured for threads"apparently means....

    Edit2: spell name right
