Google starts rolling out the new Gemini overlay to Pixel Watch

Earlier, the new Gemini design has been introduced to Android phones with the Neural Expressive design language. This brings a vibrant and dynamic design tailored specifically to Gemini, with fluid animations and new haptic feedback.

To achieve consistency across devices, Google started rolling out the new Gemini overlay to your Pixel Watch smartwatch. This overlay opens itself over your watch face instead of as a separate app, which makes it easier for you to look at your watch face while you’re talking to the assistant.

It utilizes Gemini’s Neural Expressive background, which matches what we have on our Android phones and tablets. You’ll see the action and the confirmation prompts overlaid on top of the background.

The update to Gemini on Wear OS features the visual updates to unify the look and feel across all devices, and version v1.36 can be obtained on your watch by navigating to Google Play Store and checking for updates on your watch.

Telegram vuelve a Wear OS cinco años después con una app oficial en beta

La app de mensajería lanzó una nueva versión para smartwatches con Wear OS, disponible para usuarios del programa beta en la Play Store. Mantiene fondos de chat, soporte para grupos grandes y un botón para continuar la conversación en el teléfono (Fuente Sammyguru).

Los usuarios de smartwatches con Wear OS que dependían de notificaciones genéricas o aplicaciones de terceros para seguir sus conversaciones de Telegram tienen una buena noticia. Telegram lanzó una nueva app oficial para Wear OS dirigida a sus usuarios beta, disponible para descargar ahora mismo en la Play Store, después de haber discontinuado su versión anterior para wearables en 2021.

El regreso no es una versión recortada ni una interfaz de emergencia. La nueva app para Wear OS conserva gran parte de lo que los usuarios conocen de la versión completa, incluyendo los fondos de chat personalizados. Incluso los grupos grandes resultan relativamente fáciles de navegar gracias a un diseño condensado e inteligente. Un detalle de usabilidad que los usuarios de smartwatch van a apreciar especialmente es que las conversaciones incluyen un botón prominente de «Abrir en el teléfono» para poder continuar fácilmente la lectura desde la versión completa de la app.

Si estás inscripto en el programa beta de Telegram, ya podés ver la opción de instalar la versión Wear OS en la Play Store. Si todavía no estás en el programa beta pero querés unirte, podés hacerlo yendo al final de la página de Telegram en la Play Store y tocando «Unirse» en la tarjeta del programa beta.

Para los usuarios de Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch o cualquier smartwatch con Wear OS que usen Telegram como su mensajero principal, el regreso de la app oficial es un cambio de calidad de vida significativo después de cinco años de soluciones alternativas.

Dotychczasowe, pełnoekranowe kafelki (Tiles) zostaną systematycznie zastąpione przez nowe rozwiązanie o nazwie Wear Widgets. Ten ruch ma na celu ostateczne zacieranie granic wizualnych i architektonicznych między standardowym Androidem a oprogramowaniem napędzającym smartwatche pokroju Pixel Watcha czy Samsung Galaxy Watch.

Standaryzacja rozmiarów i ułatwienia dla programistów

Nowe elementy interfejsu zostały zaprojektowane w dwóch podstawowych rozmiarach: większym formacie 2×2 oraz mniejszym 2×1. Ich konstrukcja i zachowanie celowo nawiązują do klasycznych widżetów znanych z ekranów głównych smartfonów.

Decyzja Google to przede wszystkim ukłon w stronę deweloperów oprogramowania. Zastosowanie wspólnego języka projektowania między mobilnym Androidem a platformą Wear OS pozwoli na znacznie szybsze i tańsze przenoszenie funkcji z telefonów bezpośrednio na nadgarstki użytkowników.

Nowy system ma charakteryzować się dużą elastycznością i dynamiką wyświetlanych informacji, co stanowi istotny krok naprzód względem statycznych ekranów informacyjnych, do których przyzwyczaiły nas poprzednie generacje oprogramowania.

Gotowość producentów i aplikacji zewnętrznych

Proces migracji do nowego standardu już się rozpoczął. Architektura widżetów jest w pełni kompatybilna z systemem stosowanym w najnowszych zegarkach Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, działających pod kontrolą hybrydowego oprogramowania Wear OS 6 i nakładki One UI Watch 8. Rozwiązanie to pozwala na swobodne układanie nowych narzędzi na kartach obok głównej tarczy zegarka.

Pełne przejście na Wear Widgets nastąpi wraz z nadchodzącą premierą systemu Wear OS 7. Według informacji przekazanych przez Google, kluczowi dostawcy oprogramowania są już na zaawansowanym etapie dostosowywania swoich produktów do nowych wymogów interfejsu. Wśród pierwszych aplikacji, które oficjalnie porzucą kafelki na rzecz ujednoliconych widżetów, znalazły się między innymi Spotify, WhatsApp, Peloton oraz Todoist.

12 maja 2026 roku świat, jaki znałeś z aplikacji Fitbit, przestanie istnieć. Google oficjalnie przekształca ją w Google Health, a przy okazji robi „czystki”, które uderzą w najbardziej lojalnych użytkowników. Nie jest to tylko zmiana nazwy – to wycinanie funkcji, które dla wielu były powodem zakupu tych urządzeń.

Koniec „sennych zwierząt” i chrapania

Jedną z najciekawszych funkcji premium Fitbita były Profile Snu i przypisywane co miesiąc „senne zwierzęta” (np. niedźwiedź czy żyrafa), które w obrazowy sposób pokazywały jakość wypoczynku.

Co się zmienia? Zwierzęta znikają. Zamiast nich dostaniesz Google Health Coach (oparte na Gemini), któremu będziesz mógł zadać pytanie: „Jak dziś spałem?”.

Co jeszcze? Użytkownicy modeli Sense i Versa 3 tracą funkcję Snore Detection (wykrywanie chrapania). Znika też wskaźnik EOV (szacunkowa zmienność tlenu), zastąpiony surowymi danymi SpO2.

Odznaki do kosza – Google usuwa Twoją historię

To prawdopodobnie najbardziej kontrowersyjna zmiana. Google rezygnuje z odznak (Badges). Ale uwaga: firma nie tylko przestaje przyznawać nowe, ale usuwa Twoją całą dotychczasową historię osiągnięć. Jeśli przez 5 lat zbierałeś wirtualne medale za liczbę schodów czy przebyte kilometry – od 12 maja zostaniesz z niczym. „Świętować” twoje sukcesy ma teraz (oczywiście) AI Coach.

Społeczność? Już nie tutaj

Google Health stawia krzyżyk na funkcjach społecznościowych, które budowały ekosystem Fitbita:

• Znikają wiadomości bezpośrednie (DM).
• Znikają Grupy i Community Feed.

Twój profil społecznościowy zostanie spięty z kontem Google (imię, nazwisko, zdjęcie), a z widoku publicznego znikną takie dane jak lokalizacja, wzrost czy waga.

Nowe nazwy, stare dane

Google zmienia też nazewnictwo, co może wprowadzić zamieszanie w Twoich statystykach:

• Cardio Fitness Score to teraz po prostu VO2 Max (obliczane inaczej, bez uwzględniania Twojego wzrostu/wagi, a głównie na bazie GPS).
• Stress Score zmienia nazwę na Resilience (Odporność) i zamiast punktów (1-100) zobaczysz status: Optymalny, Zrównoważony lub Niski.
• Menstrual Health (Zdrowie menstruacyjne) to od teraz Cycle Health (Zdrowie cyklu).

Czy to dotyczy Polski?

Niestety tak. Wszystkie wymienione funkcje (od zwierząt po grupy społecznościowe) były w Polsce dostępne dla użytkowników Premium i darmowych. Od 12 maja funkcje społecznościowe zostaną „zamrożone”, by przygotować grunt pod Google Health. Jeśli cenisz swoje dane i odznaki, masz czas do wtorku, żeby zrobić im zrzuty ekranu na pamiątkę.

Wygląda na to, że Google chce zrobić z Fitbita urządzenie bardziej „medyczne” i surowe, kosztem zabawy i grywalizacji. Pytanie tylko, czy użytkownicy, którzy kochali Fitbita właśnie za te „smaczki”, nie zaczną teraz częściej zerkać w stronę Apple Watcha lub Whoopa.

So I've been wearing this thing for about a week now and there's both good and bad I've learned about it.

The good thing is, this thing lasts. I can coast by two days comfortably before it needs a charge and even then it charges to 100% in like 20-30 minutes. Workout stuff works as expected. Reviews often knock on the Fitbit Premium stuff but it's not required for workout tracking.

I was also surprised to learn Wear OS supports Android's private DNS feature, which means I can hook it up to my AdGuard Home instance to block ads and tracking with the added benefit of encrypting all DNS queries the watch makes for added privacy in untrusted networks.

The app situation, however, sucks just as much as for the Apple Watch. There's just not that many utility apps available that aren't fitness focused or by Google itself. Don't get me started on the slew of "AI" bullshit apps on the store.

The Navidrome app I've been using to stream my own music collection doesn't have a Wear OS companion app, so I just dished out the one-time 6,99 for Symphonium. It's quite polished and comes with Android Auto and TV support, so that's neat.

Downloading music onto the watch for offline listening is ass tho. I have to initiate downloads on the watch and I can only sync playlists, not the entirety of my fav songs.

Wear OS also keeps cutting Wi-Fi to save battery. I had to enable dev mode and Wi-Fi debugging to prevent that. Yikes.

Contacts from my own Nextcloud instance sync, calendar appointments don't. Despite selecting non-Google calendars for sync, the calendar on the watch is empty. Only Google Calendar works apparently.

Been an issue since 2023. Nice vendor lock-in you got there with your supposedly open platform.

This checks out with how Android still doesn't offer CardDAV or CalDAV natively, whereas Apple does. You need an additional app for that. I do still get notifications for appointments as they come up on my phone, but again, it knocks off another point on the list of things for basic utility.
