The embrace of a separate "modern worship" was a critical error on the part of the #UMC.

Separate #ContemporaryServices divided the church in two. The contemporary service brought in a younger, less #Methodist crowd ... and few churches provided any means of anchoring them in the traditions of #Methodism.

Result: fundamentalists, Methodist in name only, craving a return to fundamentalism. UMC should have fused traditional and contemporary trends together: evolution over division.

A shadowy group of people who've chosen not to reveal their identities successfully campaigned to take away the privilege I had of occasionally teaching an adult Sunday School class. (One of few that is growing and thriving at the church.)

They claim I've used the Sunday School class to "promote the gay lifestyle" because I occasionally refer to "my husband."

When straight people refer to spouses, it's nothing. When I do, it's "advancing the gay agenda."
