Following a recent vote where many of our small town neighbors chose to cast people like me and my husband out of the church, my first inclination is to obsess on the homophobic bigots surrounding us.
How much better, though, to focus on the folks who, at great personal cost, stood up for us, spoke up for us, and fought for us. Doing so cost many of them friendships that had endured for decades -- and in two cases, their jobs.
