I just watched Galaxy Quest for the first time tonight. It's a good science fiction parody!

I miss The Orville, I hope they (ahem, looking at you Disney) green light a fourth season of the show.
Is The Orville a Star Trek show? Also is Galaxy Quest a Star Trek movie? Are either or both of the better than the Star Trek that was released in their era?

If you haven't seen it... watch. Galaxy Quest is the BEST Star Trek.

»To this day, it is the most pleasantly blown-away that I have ever been after watching a film. We went into it with no expectations, and left believing we had experienced something almost biblical. It is my favorite cinema experience to this day.
Later that year we also went to watch #GalaxyQuest with similarly low expectations and came away almost as stunned.«

or maybe what "liking" a genre means to them
a guy who, god help me, got very close to getting it was seth macfarlane
who came this close to the best deconstruction and reassembly of #startrek since #galaxyquest
but still believed in the male hero's journey
so he failed because he didn't question

So we went to see Galaxy Quest at The Loft’s new open air cinema tonight. They give you a receiver with headphones though you can bring your own headphones. They did a remodel/expansion recently. I approve of the new concession stand. The old one was crowded.
I’ve watched the movie many a times, but it was nice to see it on the big screen again. They show a lot of cult classics. At the end of the month, they plan to show The Mummy. We might go see it.

Finally finished my complete chronological watch through of #StarTrek. It took 2 years.
I decided the only appropriate ending was #GalaxyQuest.

Oh god, this is the #StarTrekDiscovery episode with the stupid turbolift jumping scene.
Why is there so much empty space inside the ship?
This scene is the sort of shit writing #GalaxyQuest was mocking with its chompers scene.

This morning, Child.0 and Partner were getting ready to leave for school. I walked into the kitchen. Child.0 looked up at me but didn't say anything as they were telling Partner something. So, naturally I spoke up.
Child.0 jumped. "How are you so quiet?"
Me: "You looked straight at me."
C.0: "I didn't see you."
Me: "I was clearly using the Mak'tar stealth haze."
C.0: "What's that?"
And that, my friends, is when I had realized I had utterly failed to be a parent. A fifteen year old who didn't know what a stealth haze was or Mak'tar? I should just give up.
Partner, on the other hand, knew exactly what I was talking about it.
Which is why I'm thankful every day they married me.

""On paper, it was a Star Trek parody. It turned into a cult classic so beloved it was voted in 2013 by Trekers as the seventh greatest #StarTrek film ever made.
But what makes #GalaxyQuest brilliant isn't just the premise or the jokes or how well it respects the genre that it satarizes or the fandom that it exposes.
It's the characters from the top down. From the geniusly ironic casting of Sigourney Weaver, […] To Enrico Clinton, who single-handedly invented the characterization of an entire alien race […] ""

Need mindcandy, so I'm rewatching Galaxy Quest for the umpteenth time. Love the homage to the ending of Blake's 7 towards the end of the movie. If you know, you know ; )

“I wish they put out a director’s cut of the movie because, at the last minute, DreamWorks decided to release the movie with some of the more sophisticated scenes cut that Alan was in because it needed a kids’ movie to go up against [Columbia Pictures’] Stuart Little. And why they don’t put out the movie again with more of his very, very strange and wonderful scenes?” 📀

Not a Thanksgiving person, not in a Thanksgiving country, so thinking of using #Comedon 's hiatus tomorrow as a chance to catch up on some classic #ComedyMovies I missed (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert? #GalaxyQuest?)
Tempted to tag it #ComedonOfTheThankless 😄 (or maybe just #ComedonCatchup)
