Si nos ponemos a rascarle a los clásicos de la animación por computadora, la verdad es que esta película es una joya oculta que se adelantó muchísimo a su época con una historia bastante madura y llena de cosillas políticas. La trama nos mete en el hormiguero de Central Park y nos pone en los zapatos de Z-4195, una hormiga obrera neurótica e inconforme que odia por completo esa idea de ser un simple engrane desechable dentro de una máquina colectiva gigante. El asunto se pone interesante cuando, por andar queriendo impresionar a la princesa Bala, cambia de lugar con su compañero el soldado de infantería Weaver y termina metido a la fuerza en una guerra sangrienta contra las termitas, descubriendo de paso un plan maestro bien macabro del general Mandíbula para exterminar a la clase obrera del nido.
Lo verdaderamente genial de esta entrega es el tono tan humano, cínico y conversacional que le dieron los directores, alejándose por completo del clásico cuento infantil de hadas para meterse de lleno a platicarnos sobre el existencialismo, el valor del individuo y la manipulación social. Los diálogos son una belleza porque se sienten como una plática de café sobre las ideas Sociales o de Sigmund Freud, pero explicadas con monitos tridimensionales y chistes muy ingeniosos sobre la terapia psicológica y la huelga laboral. Visualmente, el equipo logró crear un ambiente subterráneo sumamente imponente, jugando con luces cálidas, texturas de tierra muy realistas y secuencias de acción brutales que de verdad te hacen sentir la opresión del entorno y la inmensidad del mundo exterior.
Ver esta joya de nuevo nos recuerda que los buenos guiones no necesitan suavizar la realidad para conectar con el público de todas las edades. Es una recomendación perfecta para pasar la tarde porque nos regala una aventura divertidísima que, debajo de sus pixeles de finales del siglo XX, nos deja pensando un buen rato sobre la importancia de pensar por nosotros mismos y cuestionar a las autoridades que nos quieren uniformados y callados.
