  1. @farbel Influencing #US #foreign_policy has always been a heavy lift. Back in 1968 #antiwar #protests forced #LBJ out only for us to end up with #Nixon and an even worse #Cambodia #bombing campaign. People say #Trump or #Biden makes no difference... for #white #people perhaps. On the other hand, Trump 2.0 will rain down hell on #immigrants, particularly #Muslims and #Latinos. Trump brags about #MassDeportations. Remember the #ICE raids? Many more #POC will be swept up in the next one.

In addition to #StateViolence #authoritarians establish a #PermissionStructure of #violence against disfavored groups. During the last Trump administration, #MassShootings of minorities and synagogues was rampant. I'm voting for #Biden2024 not because I'm a fan, but because I am thinking of all the people Trump will hurt in the US. #Voting one's #conscience in the #2024Election is a choice between a soiled conscience or a dead one.

  2. #Freedom, #justice, #equality, and #opportunity are #values the majority of #Americans can agree on. The #GOP as it is incarnated now so narrows the scope of applicability as to make their positions utter falsehoods for large groups of people. The majority can see through their #lies, but adherents see #mendacity as the cost of doing business. But at least they believe what they profess and the means to get there. #Democrats on the other hand, are facing a crisis of #legitimacy. The #contradictions between #democratic values and #foreign_policy have been laid bare. #Israel/Gaza, the #TikTok ban, and the heavy-handed #police response to campus #demonstrations have shown that democratic values will be tossed aside the moment they conflict with #policy goals and manufactured #consensus. It's not that people don't #believe in the values Democrats profess; it's that people don't believe that Democrats believe in these values.
