  15. A general #softwareengineering question, when using the word #embedded how do you distinguish between embedded as in #firmware vs #embedded as in in process like a programming language like #lua that is used in a game engine or a database like #sqllite or #duckdb that (can potentially) run in the host application. As in do you use different terms like #embeddedsystems or #EmbeddedSoftware to refer to one or the other? Or am I completely off base here?

  17. Today, I am finally getting around to a long-overdue project.

I’m fortunate that my job provides a pretty sweet #wfhlife setup with a #macbookpro and dual monitors.

But then, I already had a dual monitor setup in the studio. I’ve been trying all sorts of ways, for months, to make things work between my work and home computers, to just have one set of monitors and keyboard.

In case anyone is curious, KVM’s and Mac’s just do not play well together. I’ve tried multiple brands. HDMI, DisplayPort, DisplayLink, Thunderbolt hubs, direct connect…you name it, and I’ve had issues with it. I don’t know enough about #embeddedsoftware to dive in and troubleshoot why this is happening, but it’s frustrating.

Either way, I’m caving in and doing a big workspace overhaul. By the end of today it’ll be discrete sets of monitors for each computer. The cable management will be the most tedious part, but what else am I gonna do on a chilly, overcast Sunday?

  19. I wrote a processor-agnostic introduction to DMA. It includes two metaphors and an adventurer's map.

If you want better understanding of how DMA works and how to set it up, please take a look.

  29. I'm looking to enhance our Cybersecurity library with books about Hardware Hacking and Security and could need some help.
I checked out Cybersecurity Canon but could only find a single Hardware Hacking book in their list. I'm looking for books about Pentesting Hardware, a general overview about embedded software security or even some general Cybersecurity books, if the contents transfer well.

    Any pointers?
