Goedemorgen. Vroeg op, want ik ga zo naar één van onze locaties voor een (terugkerende) schoolbrede mbo-conferentie. Naast contact met collega’s over de inzet van technologie, is er ook een demonstratie mbt de inzet van #VR door de collega’s paraveterinair. Zij werken met een virtuele dierenartsenpraktijk, om te oefenen met zowel klantcontact maar ook met medische handelingen. Verschilt eigenlijk niet eens zo heel veel van de gewone zorg.

In light of Instructure paying ransom to ShinyHunters, I am wondering about the risk assessment. Is the ransom less than they (their insurance) would pay in litigation to exposed universities and schools? It certainly doesn't prevent a lawsuit so perhaps it's intended as mitigation. I almost feel like FOIA'ing our license to see what recourse a hosted client has. Our lawyers would want to address that next go round.

If anyone is bored this weekend - and wants to help the edu sector out in the wake of the Canvas LMS attacks - take a gander at the recently implemented and forthcoming security patches in Canvas LMS and see what you might glean. Instructure - the company that was attacked - has provided scant technical details on how initial access and exfil happened - and as a result customers (schools and universities) are left unsure as to how to trust the software or what mitigations to put in place.
