#arte #Duchamp #moma #mostra

  3. "Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2", Duchamp's 1912 masterpiece, was shown at the 1913 Armory Show in NY, which was the first exposure most of mainstream America got to modern art. The press went wild.

#tip: always click on your own #hashtags. you will either find new friends, or be lonelier than ever. 😅

unlike places that track everything you might write, here is more like a book where you mark an index entry so if anyone is looking for all mentions of #Duchamp, it only finds those who want to be found. That's part of our 'privacy first' sentiment on #Fediverse 🙂

also, follow @FediTips if you haven't already!

  6. Marcelle Duchamp selected a pre-fabricated urinal, signed it, positioned it, and called it something that was...technically correct? Like I guess you could call a urinal a fountain? I, following in his footsteps, found an image of his pre-existing work, and added modern meme formatting, calling it "Picture". The top text is his name for the work, but the bottom text has been left as simply "bottom text", further reinforcing the idea of leaving something as it already was, with the art being created mostly from the artist's intention. It also brings attention to the highly derivative and borderline plagiaristic nature of modern memes, and the fact that much of the most well-known and appreciated pieces of art in our time are consumed as online memes or something adjacent.

  9. "Why Was Marcel Duchamp Obsessed With Chess?"

The famous French Dada artist Marcel Duchamp loved playing chess. He read about it, played correspondence chess, and attended tournaments.

@1moremin Interesting! They also made another #Duchamp close to my home.

  11. „[T]he whole foundation stone of conceptual art just collapses. […] This changes the history of art, and has huge implications for the contemporary art market, and the millions that have been invested in it.”
