OK all my #electronics / #PCB fab #FediFrens 👋 I need [1] to get a custom #keypad designed & fabbed and I’m starting from a low low base of “sure I’ve put built plenty of electronics kits & learned a bit of electronics theory but mostly a long time ago & I haven’t designed anything myself”… 🙃
so what’s the best way to get started? 🤔
I found a couple of places that do custom #keyboards & have online key[board|pad] design tools, which seems about right. I don’t actually want to become an expert in custom PCB / #keyboard design, PCB fabbing, or managing Shenzhen supply chains – I just want to get this one thing made [2] and am happy [3] to exchange money for goods & services (within reason) to get it done
I’ve already looked at just using a gaming keypad to do the thing but I really want to integrate the keypad into the other thing to get it to where I want it to be…
OK, there’s no need to be coy I guess – I want to put a “real” keypad into my 1:1 #3Dprinted #Apollo #DSKY (WIP pic below)what’s my optimal pathway to getting this to exist? I imagine that other DSKY nerds may want one once it exists, so the ability to turn it into a limited run after the initial prototypes are done would be a bonus

@vampiress oh also, while I might 🤤 over the watch (but almost certainly will never buy it), I got ~87.56% of the experience & joy by just making a custom #DSKY watch face for my Apple watch to wear during the expo weekend 💁♀️

@vampiress I have a full-size #DSKY case 3D print already (for my #AGC display at the CBR vintage computer expo) & am aiming to have all the electronics done for the next one – if you want one let me know & I’ll just double the parts order for the stuff I can’t get printed 💁♀️

It’s sometimes amusing to listen to some of the air to ground transmission on the #Apollo flights. A lot of the chatter is the #astronauts talking about #poo, actually #p00, with no hint of adolescent smirking, like this gem on #Apollo12:

The idea just popped in my head. Because of my interest in #DSKY and #NASA, I really want to remaster the A15 Delco journal into a fully digital PDF/A format with full text instead of scans and SVG for all diagrams. Many of the pages in the NASA archive are scanned, not straight, and some scanned with visual deformities. A clean remake of the journal will be better preservation and readability of the documents. #Apollo #Apollo15 #Delco #preservation #history
