It is super impressive that they suceeded. But the craziest achievement is that Apollo 12 landed at the same site, within 600ft, of Surveyor 3. It’s a battleship. And so much more. This is the USS Hornet (CV-12). She was launched in 1943 and decommissioned in 1970. In addition to her service during WW2, she was also the prime recovery ship for Apollo 11 & 12 missions, picking up the first people to have walked on the moon.

Now she is moored in the former naval air station in #Alameda and is home to a museum and a venue for special events.
