I was recently reading an advanced #driving book written by an actual former policeman from Northern #England - he discussed #Police #pursuit tactics (in very generic terms, full operational details are classified info!) and mentioned how they were designed to make the driver being followed feel they have no option other than to stop and give themselves up, but that does assume the driver is still thinking rationally (they had already called off the pursuit by the time he had decided to wrong-end the slip road to the 70 mph (112 km/h) highway, with predictably unpleasant results
Incidentally the Courts and criminal justice system worked really quickly here - arrest on 2026-03-01 following #RTC to Crown Court appearance and sentencing on 2026-05-01, only 2 months..

A genuinely sad case - #driver clearly wasnt a "good lad", involved with #drugs and under influence when #driving - but I don't think he set out to #crash and kill the lass and badly injure his friend
A wider issue is social circle for young people outside big cities is affected by #CarDependency and #ToxicMasculinity (I suspect his friend and girlfriend admired him for owning the #BMW )
If he'd stopped he'd likely have walked free from Court and got only 3 years ban as no one would have got hurt, but as fun as #partydrugs can be, they can lead to irrational and impulsive behaviour (he's also likely to be on the comedown and sleep deprived which wouldn't have helped matters)

These days #UK #Police generally try to minimise risks in #pursuits - but often assume #driver being followed is going to eventually give up, or has at least /some/ sense of self-preservation (even egregious #traffic violations rarely result in #jail if no one gets hurt) - but if for whatever reason a driver feels he is invincible or has nothing to lose, it can all end *very* badly...

I'm surprised the #officer actually got sent to #prison for this #RTC - but in *all* training for blue light response #drivers ( #Police , #Fire and #Ambulance ) there is a *big* warning not to let "red mist" take over (its mentioned a lot in my copy of Roadcraft, which although intended for blue light drivers is also available to civilians)
I've seen a couple of incidents recently here in Suffolk where RPU officers have made sketchy manoeuvres which could *easily* have gone bad for themselves and others (particularly one where they appeared to be trying to stop a vehicle, luckily the driver was compliant) - seems to be caused by lack of resources and them being sent out single crewed and spread too thinly,..

An unfortunate incident - #Coroner does not clarify if deceased was using #cannabis as a treatment for is #epilepsy and whether or not this was legal ( it can be prescribed for this purpose, and indeed is one of the few times when #NHS will prescribe #MedicalCannabis ) - but 90mph (145 km/h) is way too fast for an unlit rural road anyway, whether stoned or sober.
Coroner does have a point that such conditions /should/ be notified to #DVLA - but in a car-dependent region there's a lot of incentive to the driver not to do this (also if he's getting legal #cannabis and its recorded somewhere it will makes him a target for DUI checks which is another disincentive for self-reporting)

Got genuine sympathy for this lad and his friends, even if it turns out he may have been going faster than prudent for road conditions (which include #potholes) - seems they were all genuinely unlucky and had the road been in better condition this #RTC may not have even happened - I can guess at how he was thinking, he didn't want to fuck up his alloys or suspension having just got the car, and overcooked it trying to avoid something bad on road surface...

DS3231 RTC looks simple until you actually sync it.
The chip itself is — ±2ppm, I2C, done.
The hard part is getting accurate time INTO it.Source is NTP over WiFi. But between the request
and the write to RTC registers you have:— network latency (variable)
— AES-256-GCM decrypt of the response
— JSON parseBy the time you write the timestamp,
it's already 50-200ms stale. At ±2ppm accuracy
that's noise larger than the chip's drift..[AI Translated] 🤖

Однако при более пристальном взгляде зачастую оказывается, что задача не просто не уникальна , она сама по себе является представителем некоего класса задач, для которого выработано общее типовое решение. Например, вам может потребоваться измерять наработку различных подвижных узлов оборудования и для этого нужно фиксировать время начала и конца движения каждого из узлов. Или при работе операторов с оборудованием применяется некоторая ролевая модель и необходимо логировать действия пользователя, записывая когда, кто и что сделал. Или оборудование производит измерения, по большей части с идентичными значениями. А чтобы не заполнять базу данных бесконечной чередой одинаковых чисел решено производить замеры через неравные интервалы времени только при изменениях текущих показаний свыше определённого порога.
