Today we celebrated the Hungarian National Day of March 15th at the Hungarian Garden in Wellington. This commemorates the day in 1848 when the Hungarian rose up against the hated Hapsburgs. "Talpra, Magyar, hí a haza"/"On your feet now, Hungary calls you!" says the mighty poem that is embedded in the heart of every Hungarian. A timeless call for freedom, no matter the age.

At 11:15pm Pacific Time on December 25th, I decided to do one #Christmas thing after all, and that was to watch "Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas" on Air Canada's in-flight entertainment. It's a cute documentary worth watching.

But more importantly to me is implicit story of the way that American Jews created their own traditions, just as we've always created our traditions everywhere we've gone, for two thousand years.
