  1. [Puts on broken record] you can't just replace Jew with another word and think this shit is now ok.

"A #Brooklyn #DemocraticParty official is facing renewed accusations of #antisemitism and calls to resign after blaming “#Zionists” for a bitter dispute over her family’s #BedfordStuyvesant brownstone and comparing the case to #Israeli policies in #Judea and #Samaria.

#CarmellaCharrington, a #Democratic district leader representing part of central Brooklyn, made the remarks during a recent interview with #Egyptian #podcaster #RahaZein while discussing the long-running legal fight surrounding her family home.

“They’re Zionists that basically did this,” #Charrington said. “Same thing that they’re doing in the #WestBank, it’s the same thing. There’s a connection.”

The remarks brought renewed scrutiny to Charrington less than two months after she faced criticism for promoting a video centered on #HenryFord’s notoriously #antisemitic publication The International #Jew."

  2. Not typically a fan of Rabbi Ruttenberg, but this is an interesting, provocative thought-piece.

"Nobody would think twice about demanding a #reasonableaccommodation if #corporations asked #Jews to start violating #Shabbat or partaking of the #pork BBQ at the #company retreat against their own practice. And while I would not demand that every #Jew request such an #accommodation (for Shabbat or keeping #kosher), they should absolutely have that option available, even if their #religious practice is a work in progress. So too, here.

And despite seeing many people (including religious Jews!) eliding the moral and religious issues around #AI because "that train has already left the station," we should make choices based on whether they are right or wrong. Also, it's a fallacy: Movements grow from dissent."

  3. Asajew bomb 😬

"#CNN anchor #ElexMichaelson raised eyebrows this week with his closing comment moderating a panel discussion on possible contenders in the 2028 #DemocraticParty presidential primary, offering his take on what might differentiate Sen. #JonOssoff (D-GA) from #Pennsylvania Gov. #JoshShapiro (D) – how #Jewish they “read” to voters.

As the Tuesday evening conversation wound down, panelist and YouTuber #EricMessersmith argued, “But on the Jewish thing, because he is Jewish, he might be the #Democrat that can thread the needle. Because even though he’s Jewish, he’s very critical of the #Israeli government, very critical of #BenjaminNetanyahu. He has credibility on that issue. So it’s possible—I think he could fill that lane in between the two extremes of the #DemocraticParty.”

#Michaelson then wrapped up the discussion, “Yeah, as a #Jew, some people read a little more Jewish than other people, and John Ossoff may not read as Jewish as Josh Shapiro does[...]"

  4. AIPAC Wants #Democrats to Back Israel. Instead, They’re Turning on AIPAC.
Once the guardian of the bipartisan pro-Israel consensus, it is now a polarizing force in the party.

When Brad Lander opened his #Democratic primary bid for #NY 10th Congressional District late last year, he made a promise that would once have meant political suicide: He would not do #AIPAC’s bidding” in Washington.

Now the June 23 primary is almost here, and AIPAC has been a recurring theme throughout the campaign. A progressive #Jew and self-described liberal #Zionist, Lander challenged his opponent, the pro-#Israel incumbent #DanGoldman, to take a “people’s pledge” to limit money from #SuperPACs. He has sent a steady stream of text and email blasts comparing AIPAC with Wall Street and crypto — a new, unholy trinity of corrupting influences in democratic politics.

  5. Opinion | I once embraced the #Zionist dream. Now I’m protesting the #genocide in Gaza on the streets of #Toronto

"When I knew I had to do something, anything, about the war crimes in #Gaza (I was haunted by my lifelong grief and outrage that no-one, no-one, no-one stood up for us when we were being annihilated in Europe) I was immediately attacked online by right-wing Jews. The usual condescending reproaches and violent insults were trotted out: I was giving aid to our enemies; I was spreading a “blood libel”; I was a #Jew-hater; I was “pro-rape”. None of these insults could touch me because I knew how ludicrously false they were. As painful as it is to lose cherished friends, I asked myself: Is this intense social pressure why so very few Germans stood up against the Nazis?"
