Armée Juive attempted to protect French Jews from deportation, including smuggling them to Spain. Knut was wanted by the Gestapo for his role in the organization. He fled to Switzerland in December, 1942. His wife Ariadna gave birth to his son Yosi in May, 1943. She was killed by the French Militia in her apartment in Toulouse July 1944 & only 2 weeks before the city was liberated. Knut survived the war & died in Israel of a brain tumor in 1955. (3/3)

Dovid Knut married Ariadna Scriabine in March 1940. In April they moved to Toulouse, where they (& others) established a secret organization called La main forte (The Strong Hand), which evolved into the Armée Juive (AJ or Jewish Army). (2/3)

Sep 10, 1900: Duvid Fiksman, later pen name Dovid Knut, was born on this date in Orgeev in the then Russian Empire. He was a Russian Jewish poet, first publishing poems in local periodicals at age 14 and at age 18 adopting the pen name Dovid Knut. Knut, “meaning ‘whip or lash', was used in both Russian and Yiddish as a symbol of oppression and slavery.” (1/3)

Do you want to know how I can so easily tell when someone's use of the hashtag #Jew or #Jewish is antisemitic when reference to the Israel/Palestine conflict? When they use Jew or Jewish but then use #Palestinian and not #Muslim or #Arab.
If the hashtag were merely descriptive of those involved, they'd surely use both right?

Not typically a fan of Rabbi Ruttenberg, but this is an interesting, provocative thought-piece.
"Nobody would think twice about demanding a #reasonableaccommodation if #corporations asked #Jews to start violating #Shabbat or partaking of the #pork BBQ at the #company retreat against their own practice. And while I would not demand that every #Jew request such an #accommodation (for Shabbat or keeping #kosher), they should absolutely have that option available, even if their #religious practice is a work in progress. Why is it that some people spend so much of their time fretting over Muslims? At the same time, why is upsetting people of the Jewish faith avoided at all costs by those in charge? For some perspective, only 6% of the UK population identifies as being Muslim, and 0.5% say they are Jewish. I pick on these 2 groups deliberately as I am interested in why they seem to be treated differently, especially since the majority of the UK population says they follow no religion.

I think that could be said of a lot here.
There is no #Jew without a #community because the #Covenant is with the entire community of #Israel. You can easily be a Jew without a minyan. You can't be a Jew without the concept of a #minyan.
Similarly, interacting with non-Jews is interacting with another community, even if they're the only ones you interact with.
I like the explanation that we were all born #Jews but some had to find their way back to the community.
