““He was very nice. He apologized for what they did with the commercial. It was a false commercial. It was the exact opposite — Ronald Reagan loved tariffs.””

#CPPOTD! Canadian Politics Poll of the Day!

Do you think Carney actually apologized for the Ontario Government's (very truthful) ad featuring Ronald Reagan?

  2. Hey Canadians.
Would you support the Government/CAF spending the $1-1.5 Billion needed to replace the Snowbirds program with new jets?

(the familiar aircraft we know were built in the 1950s/60s and were supposed to retire 15 years ago... now slated for 2030.)

  5. The answer was John Diefenbaker in 1958 and Brian Mulroney in 1984!

Now the question might be... can Mark Carney be the first Liberal Party Prime Minister since WWII to achieve 50%?

  6. #CPPotD *WITHOUT CONSULTING WIKI* :+)

Pick the last Federal election(s) in Canada where the winning party received 50% or better of the popular vote?

Why do I ask? An Ekos poll that polled people on March 23 had sentiment at: LPC 50% CPC 35% NDP 7% Bloc 4% GPC 2%

  7. #CPPotD update and continuation!

Well! According to reporting from multiple sources this morning, the 68% of you who thought an election would be called this week or before the 28th were right!

Carney will call the election on Sunday!

That leaves one last question before then, so I will make this poll 3 days. Will the Election Date be April 28th or May 5.

  8. #CPPotD Canadian Politics Poll of the Day - Mark Carney Goes to Europe Edition!

I have been supportive of talk of Canada joining the EU, but I admit, I feel a little... conflicted.. about this quotable quote from PM Mark Carney today alongside President Macron.

What was your reaction to Carney saying we are "The most European of Non-European Countries”?

"They ask me, well, can't we cut off something? People want to take action.”

  12. SImple question today as Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada and of England, announces his bid for leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada and, as a result, to be our next Prime Minister.

  13. What does it say about Canada that the only time we have had a female Prime Minister... and likely again if Christy Clark were to be successful in the upcoming leadership race… is as a stand-in for a doomed party in the next election?

    So here's a #CPPOtD poll! (Multiple Choice!)

Let's say Christy Clark wins the leadership race and we go into a Spring #CanPoli Election. #PleaseBoost

  14. The answer:

#1: 1958 Diefenbaker’s Progressive Conservatives won 53.6% of the popular vote and 208 seats. He beat Lester Pearson’s Liberals. The CCF came third with 8 seats.

#2: 1984 Mulroney’s Progressive Conservatives won 50.03% of the popular vote and 211 seats over John Turner’s Liberals with the NDP finishing third with 30 seats.

  17. With today's drama in Ottawa it seems time for a Special Bilingual Edition of Canadian Politics Poll of the Day! #CPPotD #BoostForReach

Will Justin Trudeau take his "walk in the snow" and resign before the New Year likely causing an immediate election, or will he call an election before June, or finally, hang on until the last possible moment with an election in Summer or Fall 2025?

  19. #CPPotD #Poll #CanPoli #CdnPoli
It has begun... Chantal Hébert on CBC Radio-Canada has floated the idea of Prime Minister Trudeau proroguing Parliament to avoid a snap election, having his 'walk in the snow' moment this winter, and resigning, so that the Liberal Party of Canada can have a leadership race and new Leader by Spring 2025.

Would a new Leader be enough for the Liberals to hold onto power in the next Federal Election?

  21. #CanPoli #CdnPoli Canada Politics Poll of the Day! #CPPotD Consider this for a moment, you might have a different answer than your initial gut reaction.

Should parties be able to force largely-symbolic motions of confidence in the House of Commons even though there is no chance the government will lose the vote and force an election?

Justin Trudeau's next opponent in the boxing ring should be: (pick one or more!)

BBC: (bbc.com/news/world-europe-6861) “Emmanuel Macron flexes political muscle with boxing photos --- “Macron is among a long list of politicians who have been keen to show off their sporting prowess… President Putin famously paraded bare-chested on a horse and is no stranger to an ice hockey match or releasing a judo DVD.””

Are you happy that the Liberal Government "will stop sending arms to Israel”?

Toronto Star: “The Trudeau government will cease future arms exports to Israel even though a motion passed Monday by the House of Commons that called for such action is non-binding, says Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly.”
    #IsraelGazaWar #Genocide

    thestar.com/politics/federal/t

  24. 4/5 These amendments didn't please many people but from the perspective of those supporting an end to hostilities, an end to the Genocide, and perhaps most importantly, a shift in how Canada sees and supports Israel, I think it is a big step forward.

No, it's not a binding motion, but with it passing with Cabinet's support, it is a statement that should be heard internationally as well especially on these points:

    1) It calls explicity for an immediate ceasefire.

    2) it calls on Israel to respect International Humanitarian Law which by referencing “suffering of all Palestinian civilians” clearly implies the inclusion of the concept of Proportional response in war and declares support for the International Court of Justice.

    3) it calls on Canada to cease further transfer of arms to Israel -- more on this next.

    4) calls for the establishment of the State of Palestine. (though doesn't declare it, which was the original intent of the motion -- perhaps the biggest watering down... but also the price paid perhaps for the concessions in the amendments listed above)
