Por Paola Ramírez | ReporteraLa presidente Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo hizo un llamado a esperar el flujo de las negociaciones comerciales entre México y Estados Unidos. Esto ocurrió después de que el presidente Donald Trump confirmara el rompimiento de propuestas comerciales con Canadá. La jefe del Ejecutivo Federal explicó que su administración esperará a la nueva serie de negociaciones que mantendrá el secretario de Economía, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, en los próximos días.
Durante su tradicional conferencia de prensa desde Palacio Nacional, Sheinbaum Pardo mencionó que las reuniones coincidirán con la celebración de una nueva edición del Foro Económico Asia-Pacífico (APEC). “Vamos a esperar. Ayer hizo estas tres publicaciones en su red social el presidente Donald Trump. Vamos a esperar cómo avanza la relación con Canadá”, declaró la presidente.
Agregó que, en el caso de México, los avances comerciales estaban muy adelantados y que el secretario de Economía participaría en APEC para cerrar algunos acuerdos pendientes. Finalmente, subrayó que el tema “va muy bien” y que no existen razones para generar mayores preocupaciones en este momento.
Conflicto comercial Canadá-EEUU
El presidente Donald Trump tomó la decisión del rompimiento comercial tras acusar al gobierno de Ontario de utilizar un comercial con el expresidente Ronald Reagan criticando la imposición de aranceles. La controversia se originó por un anuncio televisivo que manipuló audio y video de un discurso de 1987. Según la Fundación Ronald Reagan, el material tergiversaba las palabras del expresidente y se estudian acciones legales.
Este nuevo conflicto comercial surgió apenas dos semanas después de la visita del primer ministro canadiense, Mark Carney, a la Casa Blanca, quien buscó flexibilizar los aranceles impuestos por Washington. Aunque Trump elogió a Carney como “líder de clase mundial”, no ofreció concesiones concretas. La tensión reflejó la fragilidad de las negociaciones y la presión política sobre ambos países.
El mandatario estadounidense aseguró que las negociaciones con Canadá “quedaron totalmente terminadas” tras estos hechos, aumentando la incertidumbre sobre futuros acuerdos comerciales. Además, acusó a Canadá de intentar influir en decisiones pendientes de la Corte Suprema sobre sus aranceles globales, que afectan productos clave como acero, aluminio y automóviles.
Impacto económico bilateral
Actualmente, el 85 % del comercio bilateral entre ambos países se mantiene libre de aranceles bajo el Tratado México, Estados Unidos y Canadá (T-MEC). Sin embargo, las medidas proteccionistas de Trump afectaron a la economía canadiense, generando pérdidas de empleo y presión sobre industrias locales. Expertos señalaron que el comercio podría resentirse si no se restablecen los canales de diálogo diplomático.
La semana pasada, el primer ministro de Ontario, Doug Ford, compartió el anuncio en X y reafirmó su postura: “Nunca dejaremos de argumentar en contra de los aranceles estadounidenses. El camino a la prosperidad es trabajar juntos”. Sus declaraciones evidenciaron la voluntad de Canadá de mantener abiertas las negociaciones comerciales.
Analistas internacionales destacaron que la interrupción comercial temporal entre Estados Unidos y Canadá podría tener repercusiones indirectas en México. Aunque el T-MEC protege gran parte del comercio, la incertidumbre política y económica puede afectar exportaciones, inversiones y cadenas de suministro.
El gobierno de México monitoreó los acontecimientos con cautela, priorizando mantener la estabilidad económica y los compromisos internacionales. La presidente Sheinbaum Pardo reiteró que la expectativa es observar cómo se desarrollan las negociaciones y no tomar decisiones precipitadas.
