Mit dem Open Source Gameport-Adapter von @necroware kann man alte Gameport Joysticks und Gamepads nicht nur auf dem PC zu einem "zweiten Leben" verhelfen, sondern auch auf einem Handy oder Tablet damit spielen.

  7. Game Pile: The Universe Is Toast!

You might think that I have said everything there is to say about Commander Keen. After all, I wrote a series of articles about it, then I wound up making a video that only bothers me a massive amount because I left a whole audio track muted and in the process left the game music completely silent, gosh dangit. That video covers the first trilogy of Keen games, then the second duology and the two standalones. That is after all all the Keen games that exist, right?

Well, sort of and also no.

Commander Keen was something a lot of folk liked as kids and a lot of that liking as kids meant that tit became a hobby as an adult. Some of us speedrun it, some of us write lengthy video essays, some write fanfiction and some of us, some of us, worked out how to break the game open and mod whole episodes of the game into existence.

Now, before I proceed, this is a free mod. This is the indie-est of indie projects, and you might imagine this means I’m going to be super gentle about something or other. Do not worry about that. This free mod for a commercial set of games has its roughness, but it is a game I think worth considering in its own right.

  26. CW: Spoilers for the last stage of Commander Keen 1 I guess.

Just had a quick playthrough of Commander Keen 1: Marooned on Mars to take screenshots so I can write about it for that website I’m supposedly working on. Mmm, nostalgia.
    :win3_msdos2: :blobcathappie:

This game sticks out in my memory as one of the first I ever soft-locked (the other being Mario 2), back before I knew what a softlock even was. The “last boss” is supposed to be invincible and impassable, unless you figure out the obvious gimmick of dropping a rock on his head, but it’s entirely possible to slip past with the right timing. Doing so allows you to reach the exit without collecting the necessary bottle of booze rocketship fuel that you need to complete the game. Since you can’t re-enter completed levels, the game becomes unwinnable.
