Thanks for the replies. Given I’ve manually tested the most worrisome cables I think I’m going to close up where I can but slowly terminate and test half of each redundant cable pair I’ve prewired.

Help! I’ve prewired an old European apartment with CAT6a, around 50 drops to a sigle area. They run above suspended ceiling and behind plasterboard on brick.

Before I close off walls and ceilings I need to test them all. I’ve started doing the testing with a wire pair continuty tester. This works but it’s slow.

So, is there a technique or tool that might be quicker?

Or am I better just terminating them all with keystones and testing with regular kit?

Finally finished pulling all the CAT6 (non-conduited) permanent links (29 in total) in our 350sqft guest house and have just about finished a 1,000ft box of cable. This is going to be one well connected building!

Nach Jahren der Aufschieberitis jetzt im Urlaub endlich die Garage gepatched. Mal sehen ob die Motivation noch für die Wallbox reicht. Kein WLAN an stationären Geräten!1!
Leider hab ich kein Händchen für Glas. Alle bei Sanierungen verlegten Kabel sind von den Handwerkern irgendwo beschädigt worden. Also muss es #cat6 tun.

When you're using a Radio Shack part for a project and want to get more... 😥 Wondering if anyone sells a modern version of this keystone jack: It's got little notches for these little plastic caps which cover the port.

You can get little fake RJ-45 filler plugs but they don't create as clean of a look.

After putting it off for many years, I finally gave in and bought a 30 Meter roll of #Cat6 FTP #ethernet #cable, crimping tool, plugs, etc. to cut my #network cables exact to size. It‘s also so much cheaper than buying those fixed length cables.

I replaced most cables and especially the old, poorly shielded cheap ones. Also the ones for my #hue hubs. My home network has never been faster and #smarthome stuff in general has never been more responsive. The extend of the improvement surprised me.

Installed 30m #CAT6 cable to one of the other houses on the property yesterday. The #ethernet tester said OK on all 8 lights - but connecting up the switches showed no signal. Used a 50cm #CAT5e patch cable.

Used another 50cm CAT5e patch cable - still no go.

Used a 15cm CAT6 patch cable - all good.

my head hurts now
