We went to the Blue Lagoon near Reykjavik today.
I don't like swimming pools but with the water at about 38°C this was very acceptable.
It wasn't too crowded - this photo shows the bar area so isn't really representative of the whole.
The ground is silica and like walking on very firm sand mostly.

@iceland Hmm. Sorry, it’s not the best story of Iceland. Also the #BlueLagoon is the worst one in whole #Iceland.
We travelled through Iceland 3 weeks ago and there are definitely better places to visit.
Best lagoon is the Secret Lagoon, Forrest Lagoon, SkyLagoon(very expensive). But also there are better spa lagoons like Krauma or Hvammsvik.

A #VolcanicEruption in southwestern Iceland has once again forced the evacuation of local residents & the internationally known #BlueLagoon geothermal spa, the national broadcaster RUV reported.

The eruption began around 4AM
Wednesday following an intense seismic swarm on the #Reykjanes Peninsula, southwest of the capital, #Reykjavik, Iceland’s Met Office said.

Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon spa also closed after the Sundhnúksgígar volcano started spouting lava on Tuesday and the village Grindavík was evacuated, apart from eight residents who refused to leave.

2) Les murs défensifs ont été surélevés de 4 à 5 mètres autour du Blue Lagoon.

3) L'activité n'a pas diminué aussi rapidement que lors des éruptions précédentes. La coulée de lave est comparable à celle du Geldingadalir (2021). Le cratère nord est le plus actif.

Volume total de lave : 43 millions de m3, soit 65% du volume émergé durant la précédente éruption (14 jours)

Superficie actuelle : 8.5 km²

Work on continues building up the L3 barrier as lava nears its top, by adding more material straight atop the crusted-over active flow. (photo: Stefán Jón Ingvarsson).

If this thing keeps on going for years (shield-forming eruptions), the #BlueLagoon and #Svartsengi are going to look like a crater..

This "small" #eruption is proving to be much more of a pain than the last "big" eruption. :Þ The lava has nearly reached the height of the berms around the #BlueLagoon and the #Svartsengi thermal plant. Workers will be working all night to raise them.
