  11. My gamma spectrometer arrived yesterday. Unsurprisingly but thrilling, the smoke detector has Americium-241, which falls off to background levels (160 CPM) a half a meter away. Nothing else has shown gamma activity. I have some small element samples on order that should be interesting. I am curious whether it's worth it looking for thrift shop finds (uranium ceramics, radium watches) or if they are all routinely screened these days. #science #radioactivity #gamma #americium #uranium #RadiaCode
