You road I enter upon and look around, I believe you are not all that is here,
I believe that much unseen is also here.…
Let the paper remain on the desk unwritten, and the book on the shelf unopen’d!
Let the tools remain in the workshop! let the money remain unearn’d!
Let the school stand! mind not the cry of the teacher!
Let the preacher preach in his pulpit! let the lawyer plead in the court, and the judge expound the law.Camerado, I give you my hand!
I give you my love more precious than money,
I give you myself before preaching or law;
Will you give me yourself? will you come travel with me?

Although we’re both contemporaries
And share a shelf in cold libraries,
We’ve never quite seen eye-to-eye.
He takes the open road, yet I
Remain at home. I’m proper, prim,
While naked roughness covers him.He shares and shouts his free-form verse,
But only Death will now disperse
My silent, selfish, slanting rhymes.
We’re strangers living in strange times,
And our opposing lyricism
