#alternativetext — Public Fediverse posts

Question for those who are familiar with Alternative Text for the blind and visually impaired:

When creating Alternative Text for an image of an informational sign such as for a hiking trail, how verbose should it be?

Be My Eyes does a good job with just images and/or a small amount of text, but for informational signs the text can be quite long. I am concerned if I trim too much then valuable information will be lost.

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments ~ Jim

So many beautiful #cat photos on here. It's a shame I can't boost them but most of them don't have #AlternativeText meaning that some people don't get to find out what is on your photo.

Here’s how you add alternative text (“alt text”) to your images on Mastodon so people who use screen readers can also take part.

1. Add an image to your post.

2. Press the Edit button.

3. Add your alt text.

Do you #tag your #images with #AlternativeText?

@bageler #InclusionMatters so I am happy to utilize #AltText to make content I share here accessible & comprehensible to readers with visual impairments.

And each of us is free to decide when and/or if to use #AlternativeText w/o judgment,

Cheers CB

Hello, lovely #photographers ! Please let me boost your gorgeous images by putting #AlternativeText on them 🙂

#ToriesOut Just testing this syntax

I can't boost your lovely images if they don't have #AlternativeText on them, or share your political posts (no matter how much I may agree with them) if they're not behind a #ContentWarning. l don't always remember to check my boosts, but am getting into the habit of doing so. X

And on that note, a heartfelt #goodnight to one and all!
