bummer. only just found out that Gup.pe groups no longer work & that the service is irredeemably broken, with the domain hijacked by someone pushing sign-up to fastmail.com. (Not a great look Fastmail.)

Interessant. Ich war nie bei Meta und kenne diese Gruppen nicht. Gibt es dazu eine Alternative im #Fediverse, die man mit z.B. Mastodon (weil bekannter) verknüpfen kann? Ich meine jetzt nicht die eher rudimentäre #aguppe, sondern wo eine Gruppe einen Titel und ein Gruppenprofil hat. Denn wenn jetzt manche von Meta ins Fediverse wechseln, werden sie sowas gewiss suchen. Und ob sie deswegen noch einen extra-Account irgendwo anders anlegen wollen, bezweifle ich.

The #GupPe service is currently not boosting/resharing posts for a few hours now. By having another #FediBooks group, if one service goes down, another is still working and discussions can continue.

@abolisyonista @philosophy tried it a bit. It seems a bit half baked. Or like someone hacked some things together on an instance using activitypub protocol to make something a bit like groups. Since it’s all dependent on the functionality of a single instance, it’s prone to be brittle and easy to take down, so I would not trust it to be resilient enough to build any organizing on it. Correct me if I’m wrong. #groups #activitypub #aguppe

The only catch with using #Aguppe / #Guppe is that replies are disconnected when the service boost it.

A solution is (I can't remember who suggested this first): to remove the a.gup.pe group from the tag list.

Half the time, the replies are still attached to the thread. Half the time, it's disconnected, and the context is lost.

I'm not sure why this is happening other than the possibility the original thread was not yet seen by the instance. But still, non a.gup.pe boosted replies aren't lost, it only happens with a.gup.pe 'groups'.

I see good replies, but without the context, I can't make heads and tails.

(1/2) I've testing this #ActivityPub / #Fediverse "group" platform/software called #aguppe and it's I think it's a good way to introduce "groups" in the network.

For example, @test is a group. If you tag it (like I did above), it will reboost/reshare this post and everyone following that account will see it. You'll see posts from accounts your server/instance is not aware of.

It would be great if someone made a group about developments in #Ukraine on a.gup.pe , with more time and a larger network then me, or do already “groups” like that exist on #mastodon #groups #aguppe ? (the newsfeed on Ukraine could be better on Mastodon)
