Trying to get to know the neighborhood here on #newsie.social by browsing the three-headed #localtimeline feed, expecting that to be a stream of posts -- toots -- from numerous newsie folks with human names or handles, but instead there is a site (0 following; 0 followers) with 70+ news items in an hour, half not in a character set I can read.
Hoping for a community of journos and comm-teachers, not just a news barrage.

I appreciate Heather Cox Richardson's writing. She always has something intelligent and applicable to say.
I would agree with your statement that the MAGA crowd want Biden to lose, but I think Ms Richardson is more accurate when she says they want #democracy to lose.
The GOP, led by the MAGA cult, want to end American democracy and install a "strongman" dictatorship in the USA.

Maybe the solution is to accentuate what’s going well? It won’t be as sensational as the fear-mongering #echochambers in social media.
Folks not wanting to fall down the rathole should prolly focus on positive events to insulate themselves from division.

We do have a warning system now. The relevant agency started using the mobile Emergency System during the time of D30 (which should've been done far earlier, imo). As for, “informed”, I can not say if compared to Americans; but it's true. I myself am surprised everytime I hear a little kid talk about things that concerns adults. Sometimes I'm thinking if kids today are still kids.
Ironically, kids are like that because they are either in front of computers, or using mobile phones with Internet a lot. And yet, Internet connect is expensive and pretty much limited the farther one goes from urbanized areas.
