Ich stand vor einem klassischen Problem: Mein Homelab-Server im eigenen Keller bietet Diensten an, von denen ich einige auch ausserhalb meines Heimnetzes nutzen möchte, aber mein heimischer Internetanschluss sitzt hinter einem NAT und hat eine dynamische IP. Erschwerend kommt hinzu, dass ich oft aus Netzen agiere, deren restriktive Firewalls kein DynDNS, keine Residential-IPs und erst recht keine Non-Standard-Ports zulassen. Currently trying to move my 'transparent SSL-pass-through VPS' setup from pure nginx (which never worked right with the certificates) to using #rathole https://github.com/rathole-org for a few-ports-only forwarding tunnel between the VPS and my home server.
I would be much more confident with this setup than letting a wireguard tunnel access my whole home network and then trying to close that gap again with firewall rules.

speaking of #rathole, it looks like it may not truly be abandonware, the old Github URL redirects to a new one (which references a domain, rathole dot org, which doesn't resolve... still, something did change)

welp, this sucks. 'rathole', my less-dodgy-than-'frp' reverse proxy program is abandonware, and it's got a highly problematic bug in it that's biting me.
I'm really not enthused about going back to 'frp', the smell of lurking bugs and security holes is strong with that project.

I've been playing around with #Rathole (horrible name) for the last day or so, tunneling from a public domain on a Digital Ocean instance to a server in my home, and it's working out great. It's a fantastic open source alternative to ngrok or Cloudflare Tunnel.

Maybe the solution is to accentuate what’s going well? It won’t be as sensational as the fear-mongering #echochambers in social media.
Folks not wanting to fall down the rathole should prolly focus on positive events to insulate themselves from division.
They said humans are too smart to react like “too many rats in a cage”, so we need to think if solutions.
