Clueless tourism is happening even in a small coastal town in NSW. Famed for its surfing beach, Gerringong, was touted as a beautiful spot, and specifically one street to vist by some Tiktok #Influencer maniac.Since then, every w/e, people come with change of clothes and vlogger gear to take vids of themselves in the street, in people’s front yards, some dorks even picnic on private front lawns, etc. The locals are getting so angry… these brain dead visitors don’t even spend money locally, they just make life miserable for the locals. I know some home owners in that street close up their houses and go elsewhere on w/e. It’s a curse.

I'm one of those bloggers. In the early days of blogging (2000-2007), we only cared about content and making connections with like-minded individuals and readers. After that, many of us (almost all, I guess) switched to how much we're earning.
I built my own websites and blogs, and the way I built them also shifted around maximising my earnings. I wrote content because I knew it's going to be either viral, or have a long tail marketing effect.
Around 2017/2018, I started to question myself, but didn't really act on it. It was only in late 2020 that I actually stopped. I'm back to my roots. I blog because I want to, not because I want to earn. Also, based on my interests and no longer because I knew it's going to be viral or have a long tail effect.
In my circle, and a few others I know, (and even at work actually) we started to differentiate between these two types of people: “influencers” and “content creators”.
In some of the companies I worked for, they even have two separate lists. Basically:
* “Influencers” are those with large followings and will do anything to make more money.They are basically treated as buying an ad spot, but with a clear recommendation from the “influencer” instead of traditional ads.
Also, they promised that they'll generate in-bound links or sign-ups between 4 and 5 digits. That's what they are getting paid for.
* “Content creators” on the other hand are those who may, or may not, have a large following, but they have a loyal base and their word truly are “influential”.
They don't promise anything, like potential in-bound links or sign-ups. Their word is simply trusted. People know that they give an honest review, not because they got paid or received some free item.
It's amazing to see those lists because even though those were from different companies, they ended up with practically similar lists. And the “influencers” list is longer than the “content creators” list.
And indeed, #vloggers are repeating the mistakes of #bloggers.

Yep, #Facebook is the dominant platform, and hub, for all types of information here in the #Philippines, not #Twitter. It's all thanks to #Friendster which was the number 1 #SNS here until its demise, and everyone moved to FB.
Second are #vloggers, particularly those in FB and #YouTube platforms. The chain is, their videos will be shared in various FB groups, FB pages, and FB profiles; then it will be re-shared repeatedly.
We do have a warning system now. The relevant agency started using the mobile Emergency System during the time of D30 (which should've been done far earlier, imo). Though, it's not clear when they push updates. I've received earthquakes, typhoons, and at least once about tsunami (even though the tsunami alert was hundreds of kilometers away from me).
As for, “informed”, I can not say if compared to Americans; but it's true. I myself am surprised everytime I hear a little kid talk about things that concerns adults. Sometimes I'm thinking if kids today are still kids.
Ironically, kids are like that because they are either in front of computers, or using mobile phones with Internet a lot. And yet, Internet connect is expensive and pretty much limited the farther one goes from urbanized areas. -
Finally added this account to Fedilab so now I can check it at times other than just when I'm on my computer, lol. Look forward to a lot more interaction! (I'll try to keep it #contentCreator-centric, and keep my off-topic replies on my personal account.)

The focus of OCC is to uplift and support so-called "outcast creators," those of us who create content that is not welcome on most mainstream platforms and thus very often gets #censored and #shadowbanned.
