  3. I used to refer to digital platforms as (data) ecologies. My apologies. But the relations there are not at all symmetric, they are ambivalent, at best, no harmony, just ends and means that have nothing to do with what they display.
The relation is, thus, not symbiotic or simply parasitic either. It is some kinf of reciprocal parasitism with weird distributions of dependency, benefit, and harm at all sites. It might deserve its own term but another metaphor anyway.

  4. Solving the digital sovereignty “…issue starts with legal solutions that modernize Canadian privacy and data governance laws. This has two obvious benefits. First, our woefully outdated laws pre-date today’s social media and AI companies, meaning we desperately need rules, penalties and enforcement powers that are better able to counter today’s privacy risks….

  9. We can look very closely as the UK has good data on this.

Even in the small group of people that have a household income above than 150k, a tiny group consumes more than 5 times as much energy as the "representative" (median) UK household.

So who benefits most from the #EnergyPriceGuarantee?

Well its people that we would think are quite well off.

Supporting households in this way was a political choice.

One may say, it is "fair", prices are the same for everybody.

    No discrimination.

  14. @rob_telraam There just isn't a demand for such data, unfortunately. #Vancouver cannot address issues on routes with already known usage data, at least not with current council.

Pedal Poll is just once-a-year counting event which doesn't really need automation.

Cool technology though! I hope that cities that actually want to use research results can benefit from it.

  18. @kim_harding There is an urgent need to recognise Patient Data Theft. 19. @marjolica They're not going to cool AI data centres with fresh water distilled from sea water, it's way too expensive and, as you say, they want cheap.

AI data centres also create very few local jobs. Even the construction workforce is unlikely to be local. So there is very little benefit to the locality from this. This is pure #ColonialExtraction
