Vancouver, you're not alone unfortunately. Toronto hasn't held a single open streets event since 2022 whether it was OpenStreetsTO (Bloor & Yonge) or the ActiveTO major road closures such as on Lake Shore West! These events are needed to encourage physical activity! #shame #BikeTO #BikeYVR #BikeSky

On Saturday, Park Board Commissioner Tom Digby lead a bike ride around #StanleyPark Drive to support the return of a bike lane to the Drive rather than accepting the lame, do nothing, Mobility Study that is coming to the board on Monday.

On Saturday, Sept. 13 (tomorrow) Commissioner Digby is organizing a ride around Stanley Park Drive to get something happening other than what’s in that lame, never gonna happen, Stanley Park mobility study.
Here’s the deal:
Meet at the Park Board Offices at 2099 Beach Ave. at 2 pm. There will be a few short speeches followed by a peaceful ride around Stanley Park Dr.
Bring your family. Bring your friends.

Separated from our place in Gastown by a few hundred meters because everywhere East of the Sea Bus remains dedicated to industrial use / which left #DTES residents to fight for Crab Park 🦀 and it being Bob Mosesed–off from the rest of the Sea Wall all these yearsIf they socially cleanse the city of #Vancouver of the thousands of people living outside because there is no affordable housing, maybe this area will get added to the Seawall too

The company says that in order for me to receive warranty service on a bike stand I just purchased, I have to register on their site. Which is BS to begin with.
When I go to the site, uBlock warns me that there is a tracker embedded there.
And you wonder why trust in companies is gone.

A quick and dirty suggestion for the cash-strapped #Vancouver #ParkBoard:
Speed cameras on Stanley Park Drive’s Prospect Point. From the report on the removal of the bike lane there, speeding is way up. From frequent rides, it's that hill where the majority of the speeding occurs.
To think really big, PB could make the fines proportional to the weight of the speeding vehicle.
This is win-win: the park is safer for everyone if motorists slow down, if not, PB money woes are over.

I’ve seen these with gaps for bikesIf they had lots of close speed bumps for cars 🚙 , all with gaps to let bikes 🚲 and scooters 🛴 pass, it would be quite exciting for drivers going too fast 🫨

Thanks to an unfortunate experiment made by the Parks Board, we now know that removing the Stanley Park bike lane resulted in nearly 5 times more drivers travelling at speeds that are 90% likely to kill a park visitor in a collision.

Pedal Poll is just once-a-year counting event which doesn't really need automation.
Cool technology though! I hope that cities that actually want to use research results can benefit from it.

New Bike Valet opening June 19th in the heart of Vancouver: Granville & Georgia! 7:30am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 10am to 8pm on weekends. Room for 100 bikes, I predict this will be over capacity almost every single day.

Celebrating the end of Bike to School Week with a huge party. The kids loved the bike bling decorating station and obstacle course. The free bananas, oranges, and freezies were also very popular.

There's nothing like seeing the joy on kids faces when they ride their bikes around. We just need more AAA bike routes so they can ride more often.

It brings great joy to my heart to see every bike rack was full and then some. Hundreds of kids biking and scootering to school today at our local Vancouver elementary. 🚴🛴
After school there will be a celebration party with bike decorating, an obstacle course, tune-ups, free snacks, and a DJ.

Yes, I have become that person who emails every festival or event happening near them and asks them if they have secure bike parking. I suggest you do the same.
(And no, I decided I won't be going. This case is particularly bad because they promoted attending by bike and showed a bike parking area on their festival map)

Not that I expected something else from the new Vancouver Park Board, who decided to remove a bike lane from Stanley Park in favour of a second drive lane, but am still very disappointed.
