Use of setjmp()/longjmp() in code is typically a sign of laziness - and translates to "We didn't bother writing proper error handling". It's like using abort() but even worse. longjmp() out of the blue breaks the control flow of the application and easily leads to all kinds of resource leaks and state inconsistencies. Everywhere you turn in Florence there's a lion.
1. One of the Medici Lions. Originally placed at the Villa Medici in Rome, now guarding the statues in Piazza Della Signoria. This is the Vacca lion created between 1570-90 to accompany the 2nd century Fancelli lion. In the backgroud you see the copy of the David statue, replacing the original when moved inside the Accademia.
2. A high relief at the base of a bronze statue in Borgo San Iacopo.
3. A pillar base in the chuch Santa Maria Novella.

One of the things that irk me is that we don't really have a way of tracking the long-term growth and changes of the #Fediverse .
Yes, there is fedidb.com , but it only seems to track user statistics for the last 30 days. Currently, the "monthly user base" seems to over at slightly over 1.3 million, which seems more than it was last year - but we don't really have a good long-term data set.
How does the user base of the Fediverse grow? What are specific events that cause the Fediverse to grow? And what differentiates accounts that stay from accounts that eventually stop being active?
There are a _lot_ of scientific examinations of commercial social media platforms. One would think that the Fediverse, with its open architecture, would also make such analysis possible, but I am not aware of any.
