"So Mr Guenzel and his co-authors used an algorithm to analyse the pictures of 96,000 MBA graduates, and extract what they call the “Photo Big Five”—as they rename the Big Five personality traits of agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism and openness. (Before you head to the mirror, it’s not obvious what the AI is seeing.)
They then used data on these individuals’ labour-market outcomes to see whether the Photo Big Five had any predictive power. The answer, they conclude, is yes: facial analysis has useful things to say about a person’s post-MBA earnings and propensity to move jobs, among other things.
There are plenty of caveats. The predictive power of the Photo Big Five shouldn’t be exaggerated; the authors say it is only an incremental source of information on candidates. The field of AI facial analysis is young, and has been at the centre of methodological firestorms in the past. And even if techniques were flawless, adoption is likely to be slow. Anti-discrimination laws mean that there are obvious legal risks associated with making any decisions based on facial characteristics. Manish Raghavan of the MIT Sloan School of Management notes that companies are wary of using AI for facial analysis (though he worries more about bias infecting chatbot summaries of candidates’ cvs or LinkedIn profiles.)"

Défendons le massif forestier limousinLe massif forestier limousin est assailli de toutes parts. Depuis plusieurs années, les coupes rases et les plantations en monocultures se multiplient. Malgré une exploitation déjà intensive de nos forêts, de nouveaux méga-projets voient le jour. FargesBois à Egletons et Biosyl à Guéret entendent s’accaparer une ressource déjà fragile. Dans leur logique industrielle, le bois n’est pas pour nous, la forêt non plus.
BioSyl veut installer une de ses usines à Guéret pour produire 85 000 tonnes de pellets par an, issus à 80 % de forêts de feuillus, et une enquête menée par Canopée dévoile qu’ils abattent des chênes centenaires pour les réduire en pellets. A Guéret, l’heure est au passage en force. La préfecture de Creuse et M. Antoine de Cockborne (patron de l’entreprise BioSyl) s’entêtent.
Le samedi 5 octobre 2024, de nombreux collectifs locaux appellent à un grand rassemblement à Guéret, pour empêcher l’installation de BioSyl, enterrer l’extension de Farges et pour laisser la place aux petites unités existantes ou à venir.

MANIFESTATION POUR DES FORÊTS VIVANTESDepuis plusieurs mois nous préparions une grande manifestation pour défendre les forêts, la date du 30 juin avait été fixée… puis reportée pour cause de calendrier électoral bousculé.
Le 5 octobre nous espérons être nombreuses et nombreux pour faire entendre la voix des habitant⋅es de la Montagne limousine et de toutes celles et ceux qui s’opposent à l’industrialisation massive des forêts.
Dans le Limousin, elles sont particulièrement menacées par deux projets pharaoniques et insoutenables, prises en étau entre le projet de méga-usine Biosyl en Creuse et celui de la méga-scierie Piveteau-Farges en Corrèze.
