For @linux 30th bday, here's my #linux story.
30 years ago, I did not know you could install a different OS on a computer.
In 2002, I started to try this Linux thing. Tested #Mandrake and #Fedora on my desktop. Had a friend from #RéseauCitoyen over at my house help me debug the graphic card issues, without success.
Fell in love with a stable and beautiful system in 2004 with #Ubuntu. Never looked back.
I miss #CrunchBang.
Crafted my own version of it with #Arch.#cli :tealheart:

Rozmowa na gilotynowym discordzie* przypomniała mi moje początki z graniem na Linuksie:
Pierwsza próba zainstalowania Quake na Linuksie to był prawdziwy szok. Nie pamiętam, czy to było na Slackware, Mandrake czy Red Hat (oczywiście instalowane z płyty do „Chip Linux Special” i konfigurowane przez przepisywanie zaklęć z poradnika w magazynie), ale w ramach sprawdzanie, o co w tym wszystkim chodzi spróbowałem zainstalować jakiś linuksowy port Quake, o którym przeczytałem.
Nie było tego w paczkach dla distro, pewnie nawet nie wiedziałem, jak sprawdzić, czy jest, więc na dial-upie ściągnąłem .tar.gz ze źródłami. Jechałem według pliku README, ale pierwsze podejście do kompilacji wywaliło masę błędów, których zupełnie nie rozumiałem.
Nie miałem kogo zapytać, więc napisałem do autora, zupełnie od czapy i nie licząc na nic. I szczęka mi opadła, bo typ z drugiego końca świata odpisał komuś obcemu i wytłumaczył cierpliwie, jak instaluje się pakiety -devel, żeby można było kompilować kod i co zrobić, żeby odpalić grę.
To był pierwszy mój kontakt ze środowiskiem linuksiarskim i FOSS i byłem w szoku, że komuś chce się poświęcać czas, żeby za darmo pomóc przy bezpłatnym oprogramowaniu.
Kto wie, czy gdyby nie to doświadczenie, nie siedziałbym dalej na Windows, albo chociaż dłużej.#Linux #Mandrake #RedHat #Slackware #ChipLinuxSpecial #granieNaLinuksie #Quake #FOSS
