Itse asiassa Debianin jälkeen oli Debian-johdannainen #BunsenLabs, koska aikanaan ihan tykkäsin #CrunchBang'istä, jonka hengessä se jatkaa. 30,5 cm (12") näytöllä 1920×1080 tarkkuudella kaivattaisiin kuitenkin vähän parempia DPI-säätöjä – tai sitten #KDEPlasma on vain opettanut minut herkkup*rseeksi.

Finally got my hardware brightness buttons to work in #BunsenLabs.

1. With root, add:

Looking at #lightweight #Linux distros and window managers. I already know I like #CrunchBang and its standard #OpenBox from when I last daily-drove Linux, So #CrunchBangPlusPlus and #BunsenLabs are obvious first picks, and have already made it onto my #Easy2Boot / #Ventoy #LiveUSB, but I've also peeked at #Nobara and decided to try it on for size as well.

Looking at a few other window managers, I was pretty impressed by #AwesomeWM and have also heard good things about #FluxBox.

All will suit my needs more or less equally (and any can be modified or switched), each just have unique flavors, quirks, and footprints.

Oh! Of course, I was distracted. I even wrote a poem about so much bane.

Well, before I go off on another tangent.

@Radixi Als ich noch meinen Ur-EeePC benutzte, warf ich auch mal einen Blick auf #PeppermintOS, nahm dann aber aus Gründen, die ich vergessen habe, #Crunchbang. Das lief sehr langsam. Erst mit #PuppyLinux kam der Winzling wieder richtig in Schwung.

Jetzt habe ich drei #netbooks der Leistungsklasse geschenkt bekommen, der dein EeePC angehört. Auf denen werde ich PeppermintOS nochmal ausprobieren. Vielleicht taugen sie ja noch als Fileserver für Backups oder so.

Der Bürocomputer, über den ich heute schrieb, gehört aber zu einer ganz anderen Leistungklasse. Auf dem laufen alle gängigen Linux-Distributionen. Trotzdem werden solche Computer in vielen Firmen weggeworfen – manchmal schon nach drei Jahren, wie ich hörte. Leider nimmt die @computertruhe nur noch Laptops und ähnlich mobile Computer an. Wer rettet die vielen Desktop-PCs?

@Ductos Mine is still working OK. Earlier I had #Crunchbang , then #Bunsenlabs and now pure #debian with #XFCE WM.

@ihor самому аж дивно, що я пробував #crunchbang ще в 2010-му, і не звабився… але згодом у 2013-2015 таки два чи три роки поспіль просидів на ньому як основному дистрі на особистому ноутбуці (вже не нетбук, а більш чи менш притомний на той час aspire s3, здається):

@ihor налаштований openbox до стану, коли ним вже можна користуватися «з коробки», і мінімальний (справді мінімальний, але придатний для використання на типовій машині) набір пакунків.

#crunchbang починався як «ubuntu з openbox і без усього bloat'у», потім переробили на debian (якщо не помиляюся), щоби уникнути проблем з нестандартним апстрімом.

For @linux 30th bday, here's my #linux story.

30 years ago, I did not know you could install a different OS on a computer.

In 2002, I started to try this Linux thing. Tested #Mandrake and #Fedora on my desktop. Had a friend from #RéseauCitoyen over at my house help me debug the graphic card issues, without success.

Fell in love with a stable and beautiful system in 2004 with #Ubuntu. Never looked back.

I miss #CrunchBang.
Crafted my own version of it with #Arch.

Okay Fediverse, what Linux distro should I hop to next?

Target is my should-be-mostly-functional laptop (Thinkpad T460). It currently has Linux Mint 18 (!) on it, and is due for a refresh. History: my older, okay-if-it's-a-little-broken laptop is currently running Arch, and was Slackware before that. Desktop is Xubuntu, in-home server is Fedora.

For this one, looking for something with reasonable package management and stability, vaguely on the less fiddly side but not totally opposed to fiddling. Otherwise, pretty open.

I've been hearing #Alpine a lot these days. Is #Crunchbang still cool? I don't know where it lies on the fiddly spectrum. Is #Nix a distro or a package manager?? Is #Wayland functional yet? I haven't been keeping up that much on Linux distros lately and I don't know what the scene is, so stump for your faves 😄
