Anyway, really important to keep on going on about the need for a #WindFallTax and cutting of #Subsidies to #FossilFuel industries in the run up to #COP28 - let’s just both try and as much as we can!

@breadandcircuses The "system change" we need is eventually going to have to come from the local level. Transportation, housing, and land use are all key to decarbonization, and are mostly governed at the nonpartisan local level.
Try to build a wind farm, a walkable neighborhood, or use some road space for low carbon transport -- local NIMBYs will ensure that nothing gets done.
Unfortunately, our climate problems go far beyond Micro$oft and Lockheed.

IIRC, "compostables" like PLA (polylactic acid) from corn should be safe, but not "biodegradables" like oxo-biodegradables that just break down into microplastics. It's a lot to expect consumers to keep track of... But that's a feature, not a bug, of the system, amirite? #banplastic #CircularEconomy #accountability

@breadandcircuses My paranoia makes it hard not the think that the very wealthy, who IMO see themselves as #Übermensch (in the meaning used by #Fascists). I suspect they hope for a world where #AIRobots can provide their material needs while devising various means of reducing the population of #untermensch. Is this partly why we seem to be rushing headlong into some form of WWIII, will not stop a GAZA genocide and generally seem to be drifting into a #FarRight #MassPsychosis.

Abolition, suffrage, temperance (whatever you believe about libations, the motive was to stop abuse). In the 20th century, civil rights and birth control. I'm seeing it now with #momsdemand . I'm in electoral politics and I see #momsdemand everywhere. For the moment, men may rule the roost, but "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

How do we get deciders to finally ACT accordingly to the all so well known facts?
The facts have been known for decades and scientists are increasingly issuing desperate warnings.
It seems to make no (more) sense to state all obvious scientific facts over and over and over again. That doesn't DO anything, only preaching to the converted.

Well, convincing admins of big instances to get onboard with the idea is an uphill battle, as you'd expect.
So maybe something like regular folks posting descriptions of the images they'd normally upload instead of the images themselves could be a good, arguably less impactful alternative?
