Well, convincing admins of big instances to get onboard with the idea is an uphill battle, as you'd expect.
So maybe something like regular folks posting descriptions of the images they'd normally upload instead of the images themselves could be a good, arguably less impactful alternative?

In solidarity with the blind and vision-impaired community, I propose that twice a year, on the World Sight Day and the Global Accessibility Awareness Day, fediverse admins disable images on their servers to highlight the importance of writing good image descriptions.

Facebook has consistently shown itself to be somewhere between ambivalent and openly hostile towards a huge segment of the population. Removing it is akin to a public service.

Lavender Onyxheart is local to #SanAntonio, is #homeless, and is looking for assistance with her move into her new Air BNB for temporary housing. This will take all day.
Let's do our part and commit to trans mutual aid by sharing her post in our circles and help her find someone to help her move. She does not have a car and would need a person with a MEDIUM size vehicle and to spend the day with her from 11am (check out) to 3pm (check in) to ensure the safety of both her and her things. Lunch will be provided in the downtime between check out / in!

We all know how to take credit. The bigger question is, do you know how to take the blame?
And I'm not talking about taking the blame when you're innocent. I'm talking about taking the blame for having done something wrong. Being honest, up front and just admitting it.
The biggest problem we have today is that there are a large number of people that cannot take any blame. Ever.🤬
