  1. @stephen @markmcb

Very interesting firewall settings. Thanks for sharing them. Question into the void: is there a “menu-style” FOSS setup for —prebuilt profiles with different strictness levels one can apply and test? I’m running , but I don’t have a systematic way to validate beyond “tweak until it works.” I’d love a repeatable approach to reach a good protection baseline with minimal site access .

  3. Breaking localhost network functionality is an impressive achievement.

Pushing that breakage out undetected in a general availability update of your current mainstream OS is even more impressive.

But the real WTF is why it was even possible in the first place. Quoting The Register's coverage:

    > The bug, introduced in build 26100.6899, has been traced to HTTP.sys,
    > the Windows kernel component that handles local HTTP traffic.

"the Windows kernel component that handles local HTTP traffic" is a phrase that has no reason to exist in the English language. I can only imagine how many security vulnerabilities having HTTP/2 in the kernel makes possible.

  4. You know what I love most about #CUPS?

The fact that it will just spontaneously break from time to time, without any changes being made, and requiring much jiggery-pokery, cursing, repeatedly deleting and recreating printer entries, cursing some more, sacrificing a black goat at midnight under a full moon, etc before it will work again.

Literally just happened to me, again, between 2 print jobs, less than a minute apart. Changed absolutely nothing, but the second one failed and the printer (in CUPS, not the actual printer itself) went into an unrecoverable state.

    FFS.
