  1. I was happy to be able to witness this carving of a monument over the course of 6 months from a solid cube of granite to the finished product. The sculptor ,Samantha Newman, was working in the cemetery down the street from me as an artist in residence to create this for an unmarked grave of adults and children who died of contagious diseases over 100 years ago.

  2. The weather vane on the local church says it all. I guess you could just quick run inside to take care of it.

  3. It is certainly not the intention here, but having hands coming up out of the ground in a cemetery in front of a headstone is a bit creepy.

  4. A Red-tailed Hawk landed in front of us as we were walking in Forest Park and gave us a stern look as if to warn us not to pass. We continued on our path without incident.

  5. One of the regular Red-tailed Hawks from the cemetery down the street. I am almost guaranteed to see a raptor of some sort when going there, and I am there almost daily.

  6. It is always a pleasure to spot a Golden-crowned Kinglet. It is even better when you can get a good photo since they are constantly on the move.

  7. My security camera caught the Turkeys hitting the road before the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. This morning's view out my window was a group of Golden-crowned Kinglets. It is a chilly morning, just below freezing, but the bird activity around the house is the best I have seen in the last couple of weeks.

  9. When I am working in the Catskills, I have a view out the sliding glass doors out to the deck from my computer. This often gives me a good opportunity to see birds out of the corner of my eye, which is always welcome.

Today it was a Brown Creeper with its tongue sticking out, backlit by sunlit fall leaves. My camera was not prepared, so the focus could be better, but the colors are great.

  10. This is not my cat. I don't have a cat. I don't much care for cats. It was looking at me while I was walking down the road. Why is it so angry? Did I do something to offend it?

It is a darn good-looking cat.

  11. A black squirrel also happened to be in the neighborhood during my lack of birds walk yesterday.
