  1. A morning at the farm store 👩🏽‍🌾

Going to the local farm store has become one of our favorite things to do this summer.

We’ve been going biweekly to look at the flowers (and sometimes buy flowers 🌸😆), get fresh baked goods, and checkout any new products.

The kids love it because I always buy them lollipops. 🍭😅

In May, I bought some of our fruit and vegetable starts at the farm store.

I must say, I am very pleased with the plants we got because they have been growing so well in our little gardens. 😍🌱

On this particular day, we bought a dozen cinnamon sugar donuts 🍩 (for only $8!), deli meat and sub rolls for lunch 🥪, lollipops for the kids 🍭, a hanging flower basket for the front porch 💐, and fresh parsley for the swallowtail caterpillar we’re “raising” 🐛.

Zaya picking out lollipops at the farn store. 🍭🥰

A few weeks ago, we found a butterfly egg on our garden parsley. Since then, we have been caring for the swallowtail caterpillar.

But I’ll share more on that story in a different post. 😉🐛🦋

Fresh parsley for Cali the caterpillar 🌿🐛Cali loves the parsley! 🥰🐛🌿

I was good, and I only bought three plants this time 😆🪴: flowers for the porch, onion starts, and more parsley for the caterpillar (because I didn’t want it to eat all of the small parsley plant I had in my grow bag).

    💜 XO

    A little garden harvest 🌶🫛

The kids loved harvesting a few green beans, banana peppers, and basil. 🥰

Tough day 😏, so let’s enjoy some flowers 💐

Sometimes you really do have to stop and enjoy the flowers. 😌🌸

    Purr my last email 😹

It’s “payday” for the kids, so I took them out for a fun day of shopping. 💰🛍

  3. Digging in the Shadow of NEMO

This part of Oosterdokseiland was a building site back in 2011, and I rather enjoyed picking my way around the fencing. NEMO's great green copper hull sits across the water like a ship that has run aground on purpose and this afternoon it had a proper foil in the foreground: a battered Caterpillar 385B from Oudtzwanenburg's demolition crew, parked on a churned slab of rubble and looking entirely unbothered by the architecture behind it. Fifteen years on, and the island is all glass and […]

  4. Melloona – where things grow a little differently

    • ♥ ! • Happy Fantasy Faire • ! ♥ • It’s that time of the year again. Every year I think I know what to expect, and every year it still feels a bit unreal when everything finally comes together. What starts as scattered ideas becomes a world of its own. This year, Luna and I sponsored and built Melloona. Melloona is a quiet, curious realm where the familiar turns gently impossible. Expect wild colors, vines and of course, melons. It doesn’t shout, it hums softly and […]

  5. "“It’s gross at one level, but it’s also kind of adorable. They’re cruising around like, ‘Oh, this looks delicious. I’ll eat some of this and then put the rest on my back.’”

In 2024 a new species of caterpillars got discovered on Hawaii that not only use other insects' body parts to hide under but also occasionally are cannibalists! I just love everything about this.
