A morning at the farm store 👩🏽🌾
Going to the local farm store has become one of our favorite things to do this summer.
We’ve been going biweekly to look at the flowers (and sometimes buy flowers 🌸😆), get fresh baked goods, and checkout any new products.
The kids love it because I always buy them lollipops. 🍭😅
In May, I bought some of our fruit and vegetable starts at the farm store.
I must say, I am very pleased with the plants we got because they have been growing so well in our little gardens. 😍🌱
On this particular day, we bought a dozen cinnamon sugar donuts 🍩 (for only $8!), deli meat and sub rolls for lunch 🥪, lollipops for the kids 🍭, a hanging flower basket for the front porch 💐, and fresh parsley for the swallowtail caterpillar we’re “raising” 🐛.
Zaya picking out lollipops at the farn store. 🍭🥰A few weeks ago, we found a butterfly egg on our garden parsley. Since then, we have been caring for the swallowtail caterpillar.
But I’ll share more on that story in a different post. 😉🐛🦋
Fresh parsley for Cali the caterpillar 🌿🐛Cali loves the parsley! 🥰🐛🌿I was good, and I only bought three plants this time 😆🪴: flowers for the porch, onion starts, and more parsley for the caterpillar (because I didn’t want it to eat all of the small parsley plant I had in my grow bag).
💜 XO
The kids loved harvesting a few green beans, banana peppers, and basil. 🥰
by JennJuly 2, 2026July 3, 2026Tough day 😏, so let’s enjoy some flowers 💐
Sometimes you really do have to stop and enjoy the flowers. 😌🌸
by JennJuly 1, 2026It’s “payday” for the kids, so I took them out for a fun day of shopping. 💰🛍

Woodland Minibeast Macros
The title’s a bit of a mouthful, and I hope you like these shots from a morning’s walk in a young woodland plantation near me. It was planted up as a screen to hide an extension to the local limestone quarry, and it’s now becoming quite the place for a mini beast walk.
Start with the least interesting, perhaps. This is, I believe, a Turnip Sawfly Caterpillar, and the oak saplings are full of them. Hopefully the saplings will recover once the caterpillars have fed and fallen to the ground to pupate.A little more colourful and still devouring the oaks, this is apparently a mottled umber moth caterpillar. You’ll have to trust me and I’ll have to trust the AI I used to identify it. Oh my, the conflicts of AI technology, but it does have its uses… and its downside too, of course.
Now this fella (I think it’s a male, as I also saw the much larger female on a previous visit) is a green cucumber spider. I spent a lot of time shooting this chap, and he’s simply gorgeous! So much so I know you’ll enjoy a close up… oh, you don’t like spiders?
What a cutie…
This shot is actually from my back garden, and from a sequence of shots as these two volucella bombylans hoverflies make a few more copies… most of the shots were top-down and less interesting, but at this point the stick they were, um, perched on rolled over. It didn’t dampen their ardour in any way I could see.
And down in the nature reserve, during the weekly butterfly count, I stumbled (literally) over this slow worm as it sunbathed. Wasn’t harmed and I restored it’s hiding place before I left.
There you go. A random selection of creatures. It does seem my photography is more ‘nature’ focused… well, it’s where I find my peace. I don’t know if the nature I interact with enjoys it as much as me, but I’ve never had complaints.
If there are complaints and you wish to toss dung at me, here’s the fella who’ll be appreciate it – a golden dung beetle!

Melloona – where things grow a little differently
• ♥ ! • Happy Fantasy Faire • ! ♥ • It’s that time of the year again. Every year I think I know what to expect, and every year it still feels a bit unreal when everything finally comes together. What starts as scattered ideas becomes a world of its own. This year, Luna and I sponsored and built Melloona. Melloona is a quiet, curious realm where the familiar turns gently impossible. Expect wild colors, vines and of course, melons. It doesn’t shout, it hums softly and […]https://alruniaahn.wordpress.com/2026/04/24/melloona-where-things-grow-a-little-differently/

The long road to Marrakesh: 40 years of copyright obstruction to human rights and social justice
One of the little-known but extremely telling episodes in the history of modern copyright, discussed in Walled Culture the book (free digital versions available), concerns the Marrakesh Treaty. A post on the Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) site from 2017 has a good summary of what the treaty is about, and why it is important:
It sets out exceptions and limits to copyright rules so that […]

"21 years after her death in Gaza, Palestinians remember U.S. activist Rachel Corrie
March 30, 2024
AMMAN, Jordan — Twenty-one years ago this month, Rachel Corrie, a young American activist, was protesting the Israeli demolition of homes in the Gaza Strip. Bulldozers had already destroyed the surrounding houses in the neighborhood of Rafah where she was based; on March 16, 2003, they came for the Nasrallah family home where the college student was staying.
A State Department official warns Israel of 'major' reputational damage in Gaza war
Middle East crisis — explained
A State Department official warns Israel of 'major' reputational damage in Gaza warCorrie, wearing an orange fluorescent vest and speaking through a bullhorn, was determined to stop them. Standing alone on a mound of earth in the path of the armored vehicle, she expected the Israeli bulldozer approaching her to come to a halt, as other bulldozers had done when faced with international protesters.
But it kept going, and, as her fellow activists screamed and tried to stop it, the 23-year-old college student from Olympia, Washington, was crushed to death. The Nasrallah family's children watched in horror through a crack in their garden wall.
Since her death, Corrie's legacy has echoed through the years in Gaza and the region, where people name their children after her. It still resonates in the United States, where her journals were turned into books and a play. Her death two decades ago points to a continuing military occupation of Gaza and the destruction of Palestinian civil society in Gaza, where the World Bank estimates Israel has destroyed almost half of all homes since October, when the war with Hamas started.
While the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the ensuing war have galvanized the world, Gaza's isolation and deprivation amid ongoing attacks have lasted for as long as many Palestinians — including some of the Nasrallah children — have been alive.
(. . .)
'We are hoping for a million Rachel Corries to be our fearless lifeline,' says Nour Nasrallah, one of the daughters in Corrie's Gaza host family, whose home Corrie was killed trying to save. 'We really need that kind of support right now.'
The Nasrallah family now fears losing their current home in Rafah to an Israeli invasion
Nasrallah, 22, was a toddler when Corrie was killed. She graduated from college in Gaza two months before the war started and has occupied her time since then writing and illustrating a children's book about Corrie titled *I'd Rather Be Dancing!*
'I was just two, but the memories and the stories about her have been passed down through my family from one generation to the next,' Nasrallah tells NPR in voice messages from Gaza. 'My dad always talks about her ... how she was this brave soul and fearlessly stood up for the truth.'
The Nasrallah home was left standing on the day Corrie was killed, but eventually was demolished after Corrie's death — part of an operation in which Israel said it needed to clear the area of hiding places for militants. Now in a different home in Rafah, they are afraid their current home could be demolished in a threatened Israel ground invasion of the city.
'It's scary to think of about losing our home and everything we hold — the memories,' says Nour Nasrallah.
(. . .)
In many ways, the war has magnified and intensified the isolation, death and destruction already inflicted on Gaza for years.
In her final interview, in March 2003, Corrie spoke to the Middle East Broadcasting network, surrounded by the ruins of destroyed houses in Rafah. Shortly before she arrived, the Israeli military bulldozed the city's two largest water wells, knocking out over half of Rafah's water supply.
'In the time I've been here, children have been shot and killed,' she said. 'I feel like what I'm witnessing here is a very systematic destruction of people's ability to survive. And that is incredibly horrifying.'
Two days later, Corrie was dead."
