  10. Pra Gira Girar—A Celebration of Os Tincoãs

Teatro Munganga, Saturday, November 7 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

Pra Girar Girar are Alvaro Lancellotti, Michele Leal, and Alan de Deus on vocals, Pedro Costa on guitar, Kassin on bass, Zé Manoel on piano and vocals, Zero Telles (in memoriam) and Anna Magalhães on percussion, and Diogo Gomes on trumpet. The project came about from Alvaro Lancellotti’s long-standing admiration for the work of Os Tincoãs and his wish to create a live show celebrating the legendary trio. “The idea was to create a show that could introduce the younger generation to the work of the Bahian group”, says Alvaro Lancellotti. Their shows drew the attention of producer Mario Caldato Jr. and artistic director Samantha Caldato who suggested recording an album for their label Amor in Sound. The single very much follows in the steps of Os Tincoãs with its close harmonic spaces and Afro-Brazilian chants that made their music so innovative and special. Os Tincoãs
They were a Brazilian popular music group from Bahia, primarily active in the 1960s and 1970s. The music of Os Tincoãs was heavily influenced by Bahia's Candomblé culture and tradition. The Tincoãs brought together religious chants, gods, orixás and sambas de roda, reinforcing Afro-Brazilian heritage. About the founders
Mateus Aleluia (83 years old) is still very active in singing and songwriting. In 2017 he released "Fogueira Doce", a new album produced independently.
Another 'Tincoã' is Badu (76 years old), who joined Os Tincoãs in 1975 remaining till 1983.
Dadinho died in Luanda, Angola in 2000, where he had opened a bakery. The New York Times about Pra Gira Girar:
"What if a collective of renowned musicians decided to reimagine the songbook of Brazil’s most
beloved vocal group? And in the process created a record rooted in Afro-Brazilian tradition that
    sounds thoroughly contemporary and original?

That is the story of Pra Gira Girar—A Celebration of Os Tincoãs. Born of love and reverence for
Bahia’s legendary trio, Os Tincoãs, this studio project reimagines their music for today’s audiences.
In the 1970s, Os Tincoãs combined chants from the Candomblé and Umbanda religions with intricate
vocal arrangements and unearthly close harmonies, creating some of the most important recordings
in the history of Brazilian popular music.

Inspired by historic LPs, four singer-songwriters—Alvaro Lancellotti, Michele Leal, Alan de
Deus, Zé Manoel and guitarist Pedro Costa —formed Pra Girar Gira in 2025.
Together with a group of outstanding instrumentalists and producers Kassin and Mario Caldato Jr. they transform classic songs like "Atabaque Chora", "Cordeiro de Nanã" and “Na Beira do Mar” by weaving in
modern basslines, vibrant horn sections, and expanded percussion.

Pra Gira Girar, A Celebration of Os Tincoãs is an emotionally charged exploration of Afro-Brazilian music and spirituality by a group that sounds like no one else". Alex Halberstadt

A night of doom + shoegaze + noise
Hidden Since the Foundation of the World · Crashing · Farer

The abyss is loud, and it gazes back.

A night of loud and heavy music at OT301 with bands from across the Dutch underground, each arriving from a different direction. Farer build doom out of two bass guitars, no guitar, and a voice used as a primal scream. Crashing play reverb-soaked shoegaze and alt-rock in the spirit of Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine. Hidden Since the Foundation of the World sit in between: electric violin, fuzz and feedback, somewhere between early Sabbath and spaced-out noise, inside a wall of fog.

Slow where it needs to be, loud throughout. Three bands from 20:00, finished by 23:00. Entry €10.

    Bring earplugs.

Hidden Since the Foundation of the World
    Neo-psychedelic doom — Amsterdam, NL
Hidden Since the Foundation of the World began, fittingly, at an academic panel on exorcism, where founding members Blev Lavoux (vocals, violin) and Joel Bordeaux (guitar, electronics) first met. By 2025 the two Americans had added a Dutch rhythm section — Ivar van der Heijden (bass) and Kareem de Vries (drums) — in Amsterdam, and built something that refuses to sit still inside doom: electric violin, fuzz and feedback pulled from early Sabbath out to spaced-out noise, funeral doom and sludge, melody and post-punk restlessness riding on top. Live, synced films and samples dissolve into unpredictable, improvisational transitions inside a wall of fog.

    Crashing
Inspired by shoegaze and alt-rock giants like Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine, Crashing indulges in noisy reverberated hooks, intense live performances and raw unfiltered volume with a strong emphasis on DIY culture. Be prepared for immersive noise and hard hitting tracks crafted not only to be heard, but to be physically felt. Crank up the gain. Nail the kick drum to the floor. Bring earplugs.

    Farer
Dutch doom/noise trio Farer create an imposing discord of severe, caustic bass textures, harrowing vocals and winding drums. The band, featuring members of Ortega, was originally founded as MENHIR in 2013, but chose Farer as their new moniker mid 2019, after spending two and a half years of writing and recording their debut record Monad. By taking time to further explore the possibilities of being a band with two bass players and the absence of a guitar, the record exhibits the bands evolution into a new entity thoroughly. Meaning, carefully crafted, drawn-out, oppressive and compelling songs.
With their debut, Farer made a committed and captivating testament to suffering. Heavy grinding riffs and deep pulsating rhythms; a restless stirring. Amidst all these layers you can hear the voice as a primal scream – the shock of being. The dissonance of forces vying for existence and the harmony of lightless oblivion. An agonising story of something or somebody coming in contact with the singularity Monad and thus creating an incomprehensible cycle of violent creation and destruction. Out of nothing, nothing becomes.

  12. Florence Road

Paradiso, Thursday, May 13 at 08:30 PM GMT+2

A four-piece indie rock band from Ireland

Florence Road started out as four friends playing covers during their lunch break at school in Ireland. Now, a few years, plenty of rehearsals in the barn and a TikTok cover of Paramore later, life for Lily Aron, Emma Brandon, Ailbhe Barry and Hannah Kelly looks quite different. The band released their first mixtape in 2025 and have gone from strength to strength ever since, with sold-out tours and ever-larger festival sets.

Their music sits somewhere between indie rock and alternative pop, with guitars that really let rip and choruses that are usually just as powerful. The lyrics come from a very relatable place: being in love, trying to grow up and sometimes simply not knowing what to do with yourself. For instance, the new track ‘7563’ is about feeling lost and alienated, and about the moment when you realise you have to find your way out of it yourself. As a result, Florence Road often sound grand, but above all they write about the chaos that comes with it.

  16. Far Away Problem, Homegrown Solutions

Pakhuis de Zwijger, Thursday, October 29 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

Film screening of documentary Pacific Mission, followed by a discussion about plastic pollution, from remote Pacific beaches to Dutch canals.

Plastic keeps washing up on the most remote and uninhabited beaches on earth, carried there by ocean currents from thousands of kilometres away. The documentary Pacific Mission follows an impossible expedition to clean up an island where nobody lives, yet where tonnes of our waste arrive. A faraway problem that we contribute to: our packaging, our fishing gear and our waste exports travel the same currents. After the screening, Dutch organisations working on plastic solutions join the conversation: The Great Bubble Barrier, Wad Gaat Om and more. Together we ask, what can we do at home to prevent waste from ending up out there?

Together with Hanna Dijkstra PhD | Plastic Scientist | Communicator | Sustainability Consultant Irene Hofmeijer Sustainability Expert | Social Entrepreneur | Circular Economy Willemien Veele Associate Lector Circular Design at University of Applied Sciences NHL Stenden
