  7. 🎬 Pride Outdoor Cinema: Southern Sorceresses (2020) + Degenere (2023) >> at Radio Radio

Filmhuis Cavia, Friday, July 31 at 10:00 PM GMT+2

Filmhuis Cavia is a community-run cinema with more than forty years of existence. Part of that long history has been created together with LGBTQ+ communities who have gathered in our filmhuis to organise and watch different programs and festivals such as TranScreen, Roze Filmdagen, Porn Film Festival Amsterdam, Kissable Screens, and several stand-alone movies that center queer people.

For this occasion we join efforts with Radio Radio to celebrate Amsterdam as a WorldPride city, bringing our summer outdoor cinema to Westerpark. On July 31 and August 1, we’ll screen a selection of films that are festive, while also inviting us to reflect on topics such as patriarchy, racism, coloniality and heteronormativity through the lens of queerness.

    Location: Radio Radio
    Pazzanistraat 3, Amsterdam

SOUTHERN SORCERESSES (Para Onde Voam as Feiticeiras)
Beto Amaral, Carla Caffé, Eliane Caffé | 2020 | Brazil | 89’ | EN subtitles

Southern Sorceresses follows the drift of performances and improvisations by seven queer artists through the streets of downtown São Paulo in a cinematic experience that makes visible the persistence of archaic gender and race prejudices in the common imagination. At the heart of this polyphonic narrative is the importance of political resistance through alliances of common struggle between LGBTQIA+ collectives, black people, indigenous people, and homeless workers.

    DEGENERE
    Sara Asprilla Palomino | 2023 | Colombia | 19’ | EN subtitles

Dorothy's dream was to perform on stage in a skirt and be recognized as the woman she was, but she died before fulfilling it. Her best friend Misael, a 60 year old gay man, will make it happen. In Chocó, the Colombian state with the largest afro-descendant population and the highest poverty rates, Misael creates the first queer folk dance group together with four trans women and four gay men, questioning their traditions that are defended by cultural values in order to erase their queerness.

  8. ASSEMBLY!

Felix Meritis, Sunday, August 2 at 07:30 PM GMT+2

In the spirit of World Pride and the great assemblies of Black and Queer resistance, we thrilled to invite you to the ASSEMBLY! A movie night featuring the Dutch premiere of a unique cinematic portrait of acclaimed artist Rashaad Newsome’s most ambitious work to date, followed by a live performance and a DJ set to gather on the dancefloor to close the night.

Assembly (dir. Rashaad Newsome & Johnny Symons, 2025) follows the creation of a groundbreaking multimedia exhibition and performance at New York’s historic Park Avenue Armory. Once a symbol of military authority and white institutional power, the Armory is reimagined as an exuberant monument to Black and queer creativity. From monumental video projections and holograms to sculpture, collage, and African fractal design, vogue, and an anti-colonial artificial intelligence, Assembly guides us through questions of ancestry, memory, liberation, and the futures we might yet create together.

The assembly will be opened with a performance by dancer and choreographer Christian Yav, and hosted by the incomparable JNM the Naked MC. Following the screening, we gather on the dancefloor for selected tunes by DJ Shug La Sheedah. Check out the movie trailer for Assembly below this page!

    Trailer Assembly Line-up

    JNM The Naked MC (Host)

With her high-energy stage presence and authentic audience engagement, JNM brings events to life with a unique and memorable style. Unafraid to share personal experiences, she inspires others to do the same, turning every appearance into something deeper than a conversation or presentation.

    DJ Shug la Sheedah

Shug La Sheedah is a respected figure in the Dutch music scene, celebrated for her seamless mixing, unexpected track selection, and ability to bring people together across generations through sounds ranging from soul, hip-hop, and R&B to afro, dancehall, and global music. Having shared stages and warmed up crowds for icons such as Diana Ross, Lauryn Hill, and Snoop Dogg, she will close the assembly with an uplifting set designed to leave the audience energized, connected, and inspired.

  13. The Fifth Wall

Pakhuis de Zwijger, Wednesday, May 20 at 07:00 PM GMT+2

Karim Flores Afifi

For this weeks #Aarollreview, we step into the world of Karim Flores Afifi – DJ, presenter, creative consultant, and someone whose work exists at the intersection of culture, music, and collective experience. Egyptian and Dominican by heritage, he uses curiosity and connection as his driving force, shaping conversations that resonate beyond the surface.

Karim’s career moves through creative roles at Daily Paper and Complex—where he led on creative direction—before landing as event manager at Soho House Amsterdam. Beyond that, Karim channels his energy into music and storytelling—whether through his editorial contributions at @whatsculture or behind the decks as @djbabachulo. The name itself is a nod to his roots—’Baba’ paying homage to his Egyptian side, ‘Chulo’ to Dominican slang. Through his sets, he blends the sounds of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, turning each performance into a moment of both self-exploration and expression.
