O tango é negro: conheça Horacio Salgán, nome fundamental e pouco conhecido do gênero
"O estilo de Horacio Salgán era único e um arranjo que passou pelas mãos dele se faz notar", pontua Edgardo Sarri, radialista especializado em tango, que conduz o programa "Todo Tango", na Rádio Melody. "Assim como ele, diversos outros músicos negros tiveram uma trajetória que deixou um legado fundamental para o tango, assim como muitas mulheres, que também não costumam ser mencionadas."

🎬 Pride Outdoor Cinema: Southern Sorceresses (2020) + Degenere (2023) >> at Radio Radio
Filmhuis Cavia, Friday, July 31 at 10:00 PM GMT+2
Filmhuis Cavia is a community-run cinema with more than forty years of existence. Part of that long history has been created together with LGBTQ+ communities who have gathered in our filmhuis to organise and watch different programs and festivals such as TranScreen, Roze Filmdagen, Porn Film Festival Amsterdam, Kissable Screens, and several stand-alone movies that center queer people.
For this occasion we join efforts with Radio Radio to celebrate Amsterdam as a WorldPride city, bringing our summer outdoor cinema to Westerpark. On July 31 and August 1, we’ll screen a selection of films that are festive, while also inviting us to reflect on topics such as patriarchy, racism, coloniality and heteronormativity through the lens of queerness.
Location: Radio Radio
Pazzanistraat 3, Amsterdam
SOUTHERN SORCERESSES (Para Onde Voam as Feiticeiras)
Beto Amaral, Carla Caffé, Eliane Caffé | 2020 | Brazil | 89’ | EN subtitles
Southern Sorceresses follows the drift of performances and improvisations by seven queer artists through the streets of downtown São Paulo in a cinematic experience that makes visible the persistence of archaic gender and race prejudices in the common imagination. At the heart of this polyphonic narrative is the importance of political resistance through alliances of common struggle between LGBTQIA+ collectives, black people, indigenous people, and homeless workers.
DEGENERE
Sara Asprilla Palomino | 2023 | Colombia | 19’ | EN subtitles
Dorothy's dream was to perform on stage in a skirt and be recognized as the woman she was, but she died before fulfilling it. Her best friend Misael, a 60 year old gay man, will make it happen. In Chocó, the Colombian state with the largest afro-descendant population and the highest poverty rates, Misael creates the first queer folk dance group together with four trans women and four gay men, questioning their traditions that are defended by cultural values in order to erase their queerness.

MORENA LERABA
Morena Leraba is the stage name of Teboho Mochaoa, a musician and shepherd from Matholeng, a village in the Mafeteng region south of Lesotho’s capital, Maseru. In 2017, Morena Leraba formed his eponymous group in Johannesburg with other musicians, blending traditional Sesotho music with cross-cultural influences to mould a singular sound imbued with the enigma of a shepherd from Lesotho mountains.Over the past nine years, Morena Leraba has become a globally recognized figure through a genre-defying sound (inspired by Famo music from Lesotho) propelled by electrifying live performances, high-profile collaborations, and his 2023 debut record, Fela sa Ha Mojela. Released by The Good Times Co and Permanent Record, the EP pays tribute to the songs of his home region, capturing his ability to fuse Famo-inspired vocals with diverse musical influences into a sound that is psychedelic, entrancing, and dynamic.
Famo, a sub-genre of Sesotho traditional music and poetry, is deeply rooted in Morena Leraba’s home district of Mafeteng and was introduced as early as the 1920s when Basotho men were migrant labourers in the South African mines. “I understand Famo,” he says. “But because we also have influences from elsewhere, I guess I’ve been reimagining Sesotho traditional music. Coming to Johannesburg and meeting the musicians who have shaped this journey was, in a way, the manifestation of that reimagination.”
His alter-ego, imagery, and lyrics celebrate the shepherd’s charisma, weaving together narratives of rural lifewith reflections on his experiences in Johannesburg and beyond. Fela sa Ha Mojela is enriched by the voices of fellow Basotho migrant workers whom he commutes with, and whose stories inform its themes: “These are stories of migration. Labour in the informal sector. Johannesburg and its hardships. Hope. Finding strength and courage. Spiritual calling. Death, and having to live with the memory of loved ones.”
Since emerging onto the scene, Morena Leraba has become a sought-after collaborator. Notable projects include Major Lazer’s 2021 album Music is the Weapon – Reloaded (Mad Decent), where he appeared on Hands Up alongside South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly; Johannesburg with Sibot and Gruff Rhys (formerly of Super Furry Animals), the first single from EGOLI (2019) by Damon Albarn’s Africa Express; We No Be Machine (Strut Records, 2020) by the London-based collective ONIPA; Harare, the lead single from Johannesburg’s BLK JKS’ 2021 album Abantu – Before Humans (Glitterbeat Records); and Bubbling (Mawimbi Records, 2021), a collaboration with Paris-based Mawimbi and South African producer and his mentor Spoek Mathambo.

DJ Rasureitor is a Colombian artist who travels the world bringing the best of Latin American rhythms. Her musical selection is a mix of tropical madness that encompasses merengue, salsa, psychedelic cumbia, Latin core, and new rhythms to dance, sweat, move your hips, get close, and spin until you’re intoxicated. For Rasureitor, the dance floor is a political space where queer, trans, dissident, and migrant bodies can feel sensuality, dance intensely, seduce each other, reconnect with their roots, resist through dance and joy, close their eyes, and travel through the music and political discourses that Rasu plays with in her set, unleashing wild and conscious sensations.

ASSEMBLY!
Felix Meritis, Sunday, August 2 at 07:30 PM GMT+2
In the spirit of World Pride and the great assemblies of Black and Queer resistance, we thrilled to invite you to the ASSEMBLY! A movie night featuring the Dutch premiere of a unique cinematic portrait of acclaimed artist Rashaad Newsome’s most ambitious work to date, accompanied by a live performance and a DJ set to gather on the dancefloor to close the night.
Assembly (dir. Rashaad Newsome & Johnny Symons, 2025) follows the creation of a groundbreaking multimedia exhibition and performance at New York’s historic Park Avenue Armory. Once a symbol of military authority and white institutional power, the Armory is reimagined as an exuberant monument to Black and queer creativity. From monumental video projections and holograms to sculpture, collage, and African fractal design, vogue, and an anti-colonial artificial intelligence, Assembly guides us through questions of ancestry, memory, liberation, and the futures we might yet create together.
The assembly will be opened with a performance and hosted by the incomparable JNM the Naked MC. Following the screening, we gather on the dancefloor for selected tunes by DJ Shug La Sheedah. Check out the movie trailer for Assembly below this page!

With her high-energy stage presence and authentic audience engagement, JNM brings events to life with a unique and memorable style. Unafraid to share personal experiences, she inspires others to do the same, turning every appearance into something deeper than a conversation or presentation.Shug la Sheedah | DJ

Shug La Sheedah is a respected figure in the Dutch music scene, celebrated for her seamless mixing, unexpected track selection, and ability to bring people together across generations through sounds ranging from soul, hip-hop, and R&B to afro, dancehall, and global music. Having shared stages and warmed up crowds for icons such as Diana Ross, Lauryn Hill, and Snoop Dogg, she will close the assembly with an uplifting set designed to leave the audience energized, connected, and inspired.Jordan Achiano | Performer
Jordan Achiano is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spanning dance, photography, film, and performance serves as an exploration into the human essence. His practice is rooted in endless conversation with the self, navigating the specific complexities of a Surinamese identity within a Western landscape.Everything Jordan creates begins with S.S.M.A. (Sacred Sexual Movement Alchemy), a personal ritual used to tap into a deep, creative reservoir. By honoring the “internal feminine,” he accesses a bridge to a raw, ancient power, allowing ancestral codes to surface as snippets of insight within his modern movements and visuals.
Jordan’s aesthetic is a deliberate fusion of the old and the new; a bridge between heritage and the future. Through the mastery of light, shadow, and form, he constructs “sacred spaces” that invite the viewer into a state of profound clarity.
Ultimately, Jordan aims to move beyond the superficial constraints of the modern world. He doesn’t just want you to observe his work; he seeks a deeper understanding of himself through the act of creation, inviting the audience to connect with their own souls instead of their time. He leaves you with a feeling that only you can define.

ASSEMBLY!
Felix Meritis, Sunday, August 2 at 07:30 PM GMT+2
In the spirit of World Pride and the great assemblies of Black and Queer resistance, we thrilled to invite you to the ASSEMBLY! A movie night featuring the Dutch premiere of a unique cinematic portrait of acclaimed artist Rashaad Newsome’s most ambitious work to date, followed by a live performance and a DJ set to gather on the dancefloor to close the night.
The assembly will be opened with a performance by dancer and choreographer Christian Yav, and hosted by the incomparable JNM the Naked MC. Following the screening, we gather on the dancefloor for selected tunes by DJ Shug La Sheedah. Check out the movie trailer for Assembly below this page!
