Indigenous Liberation Week Opening Film Screening: “Return to the Falls” + Stolen Generations Discussion Panel

“Return to the Falls” is a feature‐length docudrama that tells the life story of Elder Betty Ross (Cree). As a girl from Pimicikamak Cree Nation, she held the sacred teachings of her father like a torch to survive the Indian residential school system. In this film, you will experience Betty’s journey. Cinematic reenactments bring to life unimaginable hardships and euphoric moments of freedom, interwoven with present day footage of Betty as she returns to the falls of her childhood for the first time in more than 70 years.

Following the film, we will have a panel discussion with the daughter of Elder Betty Ross, Viene Vaux (Cree) and Chautuileo Tranamil (Mapuche), who are both Indigenous survivors of the Stolen Generations. The discussion will be moderated by Skylar Joseph (Lakota) and she invites the speakers to share their experiences as survivors, their resilience, and their dreams for the future generations.
Speakers:
Viene Vaux Bilodeau (they/them) is a Cree, two-spirit, 60’s Scoop Survivor from Treaty 5, Pimicikamak Cree Nation. Viene was illegally adopted by white Canadian parents as a baby and was raised without knowing their Cree heritage. Elder Betty Ross is the mother of Viene and together they have had to overcome, and are healing from, generations of forced assimilation & family separation practices.
Chautuileo Tranamil is Mapuche Pewenche from Wallmapu, Chile. She is a political scientist, youth mentor and a protector of mother Earth. She grew up partly in the Netherlands, as Chautuileo was one of the stolen generations from the Mapuche people. Her mother was enrolled in a residential school in Chile. Even though they got separated forcefully, they have established their reconnection. Both of them advocate for Indigenous rights and Indigenous motherhood.
"Non-Binary", an Indigenous gender identities art exhibition by Masharu Studios will be on display with artists/researchers and subjects of the project available in the Cinema Cafe, before and after the main screening event. Youth Interns from Masharu Studios will be presenting the project on behalf of Dr. masharu (they/them), and alongside Viene, who is featured in the project.

For Amsterdam Dance Event, we launch the series with Daft Punk’s Electroma (2006), a hypnotic, largely wordless film that takes the duo’s distinctive visual language into cinema. Its striking cinematography, minimalist storytelling and experimental approach show another side of the creative world behind one of electronic music’s most influential acts.

The evening includes a short introduction and records spun by Reigersbos Records.

IKI x TILLATEC Kumamoto Fundraiser

IKI presents a fundraiser at Tillatec in support of communities affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake in Japan.

Together with collaborators Kusemono and RLB (Red Light Bricks), the event brings together Japanese food, music, art and education to share Japanese culture while raising funds for earthquake recovery.

Expect a night of DJs, food, visual art and educational elements exploring the impact of earthquakes in Japan.

All profits from food and art sales will go towards the fundraiser.

Bart speelt harmonica sinds 1974 en speelt sinds 1979 saxofoon.

Bart speelde met het Ig Henneman Kwintet, Trio Nu, Splinks, de Bik Bent Braam en Het Delta Blues Duo. Bart treedt regelmatig op met zanger Han Buhrs.
Hij was lange tijd muziekleraar op het Muziekpakhuis.

Minco studeerde basgitaar aan het Conservatorium in Hilversum. Hij heeft zich voornamelijk gespecialiseerd in Caribische muziek, zoals de Cubaanse Son en de Dominicaanse Merengue. Sinds 2000 treedt hij veel in Nederland en België op met de groep Son Así waarmee hij ook op het Festival de la Trova in Santiago de Cuba speelde. Daarnaast speelt hij in een aantal andere formaties, zoals Latin Adventure en begeleidt hij de Rotterdamse fado-zangeres Nicole Philoména.

Sander Panhuysen
Gitaar en zang

Sander was een van de oprichters van
'De band krijgt Kinderen’, waarmee hij meer dan 10 jaar lang op vele podia in Nederland en België stond en waarmee hij vijf cd’s opnam. Sander speelde en speelt in meerdere popbands. Hij doet muziek- voorstellingen voor het Muziekatelier (Muziekschool Amsterdam) en schrijft ze ook. Hij is sinds 1999 docent aan het Muziekpakhuis.

Fred Cohen
Drums, zang en gitaar

Fred speelde in de 80er jaren met Happy Herby en de Melodoewaps (met o.a. Astrid Seriese), met Herman de Wit, Nedly Elstak, Rinus Groeneveld’s Blues Bastards. Fred speelde op sessies met o.a. Freddie Cavalli, Cuby en vele anderen. Ook speel-de hij bij Martin van Duynhoven’s Percussie Ensemble. Fred is sinds 1982 verbonden aan Het Muziekpakhuis

Festen, Mia Cecille b2b Zeynep, Nathan Homan

Festen, Mia Cecille, Nathan Homan and Zeynep at BRET.

Festen is the brother duo BiX and Neo Festen. Their surname also happens to mean party in Danish. So becoming DJ’s was written in the stars. Together they mix classic references with newer club music.

Mia Cecille co-founded Bella Tazza in Amsterdam and spent 2024 touring through Japan, digging further into her Japanese roots. Her sets move from minimal to percussive breaks and straight four-to-the-floor. Usually with something non-expected hiding in her sets.

Nathan Homan came up as a resident at OOST. Since then, he’s played loads of venues. To name a few: Breakfast Club, Perron, RAUM, Thuishaven and Paradigm. To top that off, he also runs his own label TOZO and co-founded electronic music label Beau Brummel.

Zeynep has been part of Berlin’s club scene for years (playing RSO often) and now decided to base herself in Amsterdam. Her sets move freely between genres, with a sound that stays edgy and unpredictable.
