CiNEMOCCii PRESENTS: DRIJFLAND (Nico Boink, 2026, 64 Min, NL //EN subtitled)+ Q/A
OCCII, Wednesday, July 1 at 08:00 PM GMT+2
CiNEMOCCii present: Film Screening DRIJFLAND
D r i j f l a n d (Nico Boink, 2026, 64 Min, NL //EN subtitled)
Drijfand tells the story of the foating gardens created by the renowned artist Robert Jasper Grootveld in Amsterdam’s Entrepot harbor, Zeeburg district.
Beginning in late 1999, I started to film the construction of these unique garden islands in Grootveld’s workshop, a visionary project he had nurtured since the 1960s. Within a few months two floating garden were completed. Through intimate footage, we witness the creative process unfold, as well as the sudden collapse of the project. Amid escalating tensions between Grootveld and local authorities.
Until his passing in 2009, I filmed regularly. Among the moments captured were times when he was recognized for his role in bringing global attention to Amsterdam, as well as his involvement as one of the founders of the Provo movement in the 1960s.
In 2024, drawn by the gardens’ abundant nature and the dedication of the Raft Builders of Amsterdam, who maintain the islands in Grootveld’s pioneering spirit, I returned to document this living legacy.
The islands’ buoyancy relies on styrofoam, a material Grootveld championed for its “power of softness” . Yet, 25 years later, styrofoam’s environmental impact has sparked urgent questions. The film delves into this dilemma, tracing the search for sustainable, bio-based alternatives that honour Grootveld’s ethos while protecting nature.
Drijfand offers a candid, tender, and often hilarious glimpse into Amsterdam’s underground creative forces, a story of resilience, innovation, and the evolving relationship between art, nature, and community.
Nico Boink
Besides working as a professional photographer throughout my career, I’ve also operated as an
independent, non-proft, and autonomous filmmaker. This approach allowed me to create films that
span long periods of time.Trailer: https://boinkinbeeld.nl/drijfland/trailer%20-%20SD%20480p.mov

https://moormother.bandcamp.com/
Recently, Moor Mother has moved toward a more melodic and song-oriented approach, while still blending spoken word, experimental jazz, electronics, and radical poetry. Her album Jazz Codes (2023) draws from her poetry project and pays tribute to jazz visionaries such as Woody Shaw and Mary Lou Williams, combining layered vocals, atmospheric production, and free-form improvisation in collaboration with Swedish producer Olof Melander. On her latest full length album The Great Bailout (2024), she expands this cinematic and haunting sound into a powerful meditation on colonial history, displacement, and collective memory, moving between tenderness, noise, jazz abstraction, and poetic storytelling.
Internationally renowned trumpeter Aquiles Navarro — also her bandmate in Irreversible Entanglements and multi-faceted artist in his own right— contributed to Jazz Codes as well as Circuit City and Analog Fluids Of Sonic Black Holes, and later collaborated with Melander on the album Tangles (2024).

Teatro Munganga, Sunday, June 21 at 11:00 AM GMT+2
Duo Cobogó’s music flows between different styles and traditions, creating something truly magical. The Brazilian Juliano Abramovay plays guitar, lute and is a composer who has explored music from faraway places, like the Eastern Mediterranean. The Indian Tarang plays the tabla, an Indian drum, and has learned music from an amazing teacher in the traditional way. Duo Cobogó mixes rhythms and melodies from India, Brazil, Jazz, and the Mediterranean to create music that feels like a big adventure. Their songs can make you feel peaceful, like a calm lake, or excited, like a thrilling roller coaster!https://offbeat.amsterdam/event/duo-cobogo-music-from-brazil-india-eastern-mediterranean

Our members are Tiago Santos (10-string mandolin), Nelson Latif (7-string guitar) and Mariano González (percussion).
In the group that carries our names, we showcase our original compositions and exploring new possibilities of the instruments we play, which are highly attached to the Brazilian, African and Latin American traditions, but also in constant transformation. PhD candidate and member of the UNESCO Chair on Transcultural Music Studies at "Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT" in Weimar, Germany. As cultural promoter, Nelson Latif has been coordinating educational projects for universities and cultural institutions around the world. Mariano González is a multi-instrumentalist and musicologist from São Paulo, Brazil. His percussion style is all about the expressive potential of single instruments, and seeking the mind-body-instrument connection on any musical style. Afro-Brazilian Jazz & Heritage by Dandara Modesto & Edwin Correia
Teatro Munganga, Saturday, June 27 at 08:00 PM GMT+2
Singer Dandara Modesto and guitarist Edwin Correia met at a late-night jam session in Salvador de Bahia for the first time.
Their instantaneous musical connection marked the beginning of a collaboration that transcends geographical and artistic boundaries. Now based in Switzerland, the duo explores a musical universe that blends the richness of their Afro-Brazilian heritage with the creative freedom of jazz.
Buoyed by poetic lyrics and delicate melodies, they combine traditional rhythms, modern harmonies and electronic effects to create musical landscapes that are both dreamlike and deeply rooted in ancestral traditions. A musical journey that blends exoticism, memory and innovation. -

Thurifer Promotions presents a night of vicious savagery, courtesy of: PALE SPEKTRE (DE) + PELOROUS (DE) + BLOED
Pale Spektre (DE)
Like the announcement of a long series of disgraces, Pale Spektre veils the sky in gloom and despair. A glob of malevolence spawning from the astral world. A transcendental experience of oblivion of the Self. A pounding beat dictating your descent into the mouth of a starving hellish beast.
https://palespektre.bandcamp.com/Pelorous (DE)
There’s something strangely enchanting about Pelorous‘s music. At its rotting core, it is pummelling black metal punk. But it’s delivered with such a hallucinatory energy that it transcends into an elegant beast, like roaring hymns sung over a church in ruins. At last, this kaleidoscopic spirit is making its way to Amsterdam, to bestow its blessings upon the Low Lands.

Sexverbot
“Sexverbot” is a punk band from Berlin. Fast guitars, clear lyrics, unmistakable character. Whether it’s fever dreams of capitalism (“Ich bin verliebt”), social coldness and concrete-tristesse (“Täglich grüßt die Monarchie”), self-destruction as the only way out (“Der Antagonist”), or a middle finger to New Age followers (“Mystic Shit”) – Sexverbot delivers short, punchy, and uncompromising songs. Much like the pioneers of decades past, the album reflects the sense of hopelessness and anger felt by a generation.
The self-titled debut was produced by Lorenz Szukal (Die Verlierer) and is being released via Bretford Records (LP/digital) and Mangel Records (tape).

“Howie Reeve is a unique and singular figure in the current British underground. Having spent over 20 years playing in a number of key Glasgow bands, since 2012 he has been performing solo on acoustic bass guitar, delivering a fragmented and dexterous music that takes in post-punk, avant-folk and free jazz. KANIPCHEN-FIT
KANIPCHEN-FIT GOT A NEW RELEASE “Survival Moves”! (EmGlo Records) which is this duo still musically shifting from aggressive pieces to melancholic songs and lots of funky grooves and moves in between.
Fronted by performance artist, vocalist, poet Gloria formerly of the legendary, all-female group of performance-based New York poets called the Pussy Poets and Empee Holwerda from the Dutch bands punk-wave Lul, through new-wavy post-postrock of Solbakken, to his current bluesy rock-grooves on guitar, beats & sounds, and vocals. Some even went as far as to call it funky protest music for the twenty-first century. Their songs are simple and straightforward, double vocals, a rough and loud guitar, with unexpected rhythmic and harmonic changes, with spoken word, avoiding rock-clichés.
They’ve played in the US, Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia. They’ve also opened for Thurston Moore (US), Blurt (UK), Wire (UK), and The Ex (NL).

“This sound world of Bill’s two-stringed taishōgoto on this Café OTO night worked beautifully with Evan Parker’s improvisatory saxophone conceptions. The duology achieved instant lift off at ground zero only to find it’s eventual finale as if it were organically ordained. Time seemingly morphed from its ancient human construct of control, rendered inconsequential to the torrential transcendence of the room wildly activated by the magic resonance of the multi-directional pan-spatial sonance of the music as if it were some beatific blessing. It was one of those nights where art as a liberating force of spirit gifted the listeners with an offering of exaltation and joy. It was entirely mystical and mind blowing. A night of Total Music.” – Thurston Moore, London, 2025

FRED FRITH, TIM HODGKINSON & LIZ ALBEE (US/UK/DE) + LUKRAAK (Marcus Wärnheim & Thomas Jaspers)
OCCII, Tuesday, October 20 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
A night of Total Music #2:: FRED FRITH, TIM HODGKINSON & LIZ ALBEE (US/UK/DE) + LUKRAAK (Marcus Wärnheim & Thomas Jaspers)
– a dazzling celebration of the unexpected – contemplative and ecstatic, unruly and gloriously alive –
FRED FRITH + TIM HODGKINSON + LIZ ALBEE (US/UK/DE)
A meeting of three outstanding improvisational musicians who understand sound as an open territory. Guitar legend Fred Frith – co-founder of Henry Cow and a defining figure in experimental music since the 1970s – encounters Tim Hodgkinson, a comrade from those radical early days and an tireless explorer of improvisation, composition, and sound anthropology. Joining them is Liz Allbee, a Berlin-based trumpeter and sound artist who transforms her instrument into a vibrating resonant body of breath, electronics, and material experimentation. A fully improvised trialogue – raw, poetic, and unpredictable. The combination of Frith‘s prepared guitar/string work, Hodgkinson‘s intense reed work/composition, and Albee‘s trumpet/electronics represents a high-level intersection of veteran avant-garde and experimental improvisation.
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser Fred Frith has been making noise of one kind or another for more than 50 years, starting with the rock collective Henry Cow, which he co-founded with Tim Hodgkinson in 1968.
Fred is best known as a pioneering electric guitarist and improviser, song-writer, and composer for film, dance and theater. Through bands like Art Bears, Massacre, Skeleton Crew, the Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, Cosa Brava, and now Fremakajo he has stayed close to his roots in rock and folk music while branching out in many other directions.
Fred has performed works by and sometimes alongside composers Alvin Curran, Meredith Monk, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, and Christian Wolff; improvised with Lotte Anker, Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Peter Brötzmann, Lol Coxhill, Janet Feder, gabby fluke-mogul, Tim Hodgkinson, Joëlle Léandre, Phil Minton, Ikue Mori, Butch Morris, Bob Ostertag, Evan Parker, Zeena Parkins, Paula Sanchez, Susana Santos Silva and Camel Zekri, to name a few; and—as session musician—recorded on albums by, for example, Brian Eno, The Residents, Robert Wyatt, The Swans, Violent Femmes, Material, Negativland, John Zorn, Matthew and the Unfortunates, and Half Japanese.
https://www.fredfrith.com/live/Tim Hodgkinson (b. 1949) studied social anthropology at Cambridge, and co-founded the politically and musically radical group HENRY COW with Fred Frith in 1968. In addition to composing, he has a long involvement in improvisation, and came back to anthropology in the 1990’s with research into music and shamanism in Siberia.
As an improvising musician on reeds and lap steel guitar Tim Hodgkinson has performed all over the world with many of the most acclaimed artists in the field, and continues to be fully engaged in the celebrated Konk Pack trio with Roger Turner and Thomas Lehn. In 2009 he released KLARNT – a CD of solo clarinet improvisations.
http://www.timhodgkinson.co.uk/Liz Allbee is a trumpet player who doesn’t play the trumpet all that often. Or at least, not the regular one. Instead, she frequently opts for a quadrophonic trumpet of her own design, as well as her voice and a myriad of self-made objects. The case in point is her recent album Breath Vessels, made using various glasses, pots and dismantled second-hand instruments which produce a surprisingly melodious drone.
Often radical, Allbee is also an economic composer and improviser: prudent layering of loops provides a smooth passage towards trance. An uneasy one – since Allbee’s inspiration comes from recent events like the sinking of the ship Adriana with hundreds of migrants on board in 2023, or from a withering observation the problems of our planet started when humans evolved opposable thumbs. A consoling one – since her work is conceived as new folk music, driven not by nostalgia but by a sense of community.
https://lizallbee.net/LUKRAAK
Lukraak plays post-silly music of crooked beauty. Using alto saxophone, drums, flutes, found objects as well as their own centered bodies and flying limbs, they produce something of their own with a haphazard attitude. Intricate sonic mosaics and vivid tapestries of complex sound masses are created along the edges of experimental jazz and neo-neo-dada-dada.Lukraak has previously performed at Porta-Jazz Festival and Valkhof Festival, as well as at venues in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, Poland and the Baltics. They are individually and collectively active members of the vibrant experimental music scene of Amsterdam, and together with Jaap Blonk they perform as Luk&BlonkRaak. On 26th of September 2025 their debut album ‘Zaalig’ was released on LukRecords.

DÉLAGE + JACOB DWYER + DJ STEFHANJA
OCCII, Saturday, June 6 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
Délage – Another Day Album Release Show + Opening Act: Jacob Dwyer + DJ: Stefhanja
Délage is an Amsterdam-based trio creating dark, motorik dream pop. They consist of Till Hormann on vocals and guitar, Carlijn Fransen on keys and vocals, and Marius Schwarz on bass and vocals. Their new album, Another Day (2026), follows and builds upon the dreamy sounds they’ve been developing across their two previous releases—Loverboy Beatface (2018) and Twist and Doubt (2020) on label Field Mate Records—yet it takes an existential turn in its lyricism and approach. Reflecting on isolation, loneliness, and monotony, with Another Day, Délage use the holes that appear in one’s life-fabric as a frame through which to bear witness to timeless themes like love, hierarchies, aging, precarity, and escapism.
<a href="https://delage.bandcamp.com/album/another-day">Another Day by Délage</a>
<a href="https://delage.bandcamp.com/album/another-day">Another Day by Délage</a>
Délage offer a peculiar and infectious spread of contradictions across their songs, which range from painfully sweet to joyfully sombre – using every colour of life’s emotive palette to assemble their poignant and compassionate music. Their multilingual and multidimensional songs draw from new wave and post-punk influences to build an expansive sonic world of giddy melodic pleasure with an undercurrent of sympathetic strangeness and alienation. From within the shadowy uncertainty of modern life, Délage shine a beam outwards with their melodies, their words, their songs – each is glinted with a sense of hope and potential and lights the way to somewhere new. – Aidan Wall

DEAD MOON NIGHT w/ TOODY COLE & HER BAND (US) + JENNY DON’T & THE SPURS (US) + DJ BONE
OCCII, Tuesday, September 1 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
DEAD MOON NIGHT w/ TOODY COLE & HER BAND (US) + JENNY DON’T & THE SPURS (US) + DJ BONE
Portland’s DIY punk icon, rock n roll godmother and, co-founder of legendary DEAD MOON, TOODY COLE is bringing the heat to OCCII Amsterdam, 1st of September 2026 with Jenny Don’t & The Spurs!
Direct from Clackamas, Oregon, Toody Cole (Dead Moon) & Her Band centers on one of the most influential figures in American DIY rock & roll. As co-founder and driving force of the iconic band Dead Moon, Toody Cole, alongside her husband and creative partner Fred Cole, helped forge a raw, uncompromising sound that formed a living bridge between original ’60s American garage rock and later punk, garage, and early grunge movements. Her punchy, melodic bass playing and unmistakable vocal presence were essential to Dead Moon’s power-trio dynamic, anchoring a fiercely independent body of work that continues to resonate across generations.
Following the passing of drummer Andrew Loomis and Fred Cole, Toody carries the Dead Moon songbook forward with Kelly Haliburton (drums), her longtime bandmate from Pierced Arrows, and Christopher March (guitar) of Jenny Don’t & The Spurs. Together, Toody Cole & Her Band honour the grit, emotional weight, and self-reliant spirit of Dead Moon’s catalog, delivering these songs with renewed urgency and reverence while preserving one of American rock & roll’s most enduring DIY legacies.
DEAD MOON – Villa 65 radio session April 26, 1994On September 1st there will be Dead Moon Night in OCCII, Amsterdam. Toody Cole And Her Band will play with Jenny Don’t And The Spurs as support.
Jenny Don’t and the Spurs have spent over a decade forging their own path in music, pioneering a unique brand of high-energy Country Western that captivates fans from the traditional Western scene to the raw energy of garage rock. Their captivating stage presence, infectious enthusiasm, and extensive discography have garnered them a global following, leading to tours on continents rarely visited by country bands.
Jenny Don’t, known for her strong-willed and independent nature, embodies the authentic outlaw spirit of Country Western music. Her songwriting, influenced by the contrasting landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and Southwestern desert, forms the bedrock of their sound. The band skillfully merges their garage-rock origins with a distinct western flair, characterized by driving tempos, gritty fuzz tones, and a high-octane, rockin’ western delivery that sets them apart from the herd. Their music authentically captures the outlaw spirit, with hints of gritty surf like Dick Dale, while paying homage to classic country legends like Johnny Paycheck and George Jones.
Jenny Don't and the Spurs – SidewinderNow with Buddy Weeks on drums, the band continues to showcase their resilience and fresh energy. Bass player Kelly Halliburton and lead guitarist Christopher March, whose reverb-drenched tones echo the haunting allure of the desert night sky, round out the core. Jenny Don’t and the Spurs are dedicated to crafting memorable and authentic music, pulling from a variety of genres to emphasize authenticity over conformity. As Jenny says, “We’ve got a lot of open road ahead of us.”
Much like the rhinestones on their custom outfits, handcrafted by Jenny herself, the band shines brightly, illustrating their dedication to creating memorable and authentic music.

SOGA is a punk band from Mexico City that’s been active since 2018. They play energetic, fast, loud and raw hardcore punk with a political and feminist message. SOGA is Violeta on bass and vocals, Sara on guitar and vocals and Angy on drums. SMETVREES (NL)
Founded in 2023 by singer Ted and guitarist Kees, they still love to work together and make danceable, raw punk full of energy and chaos. They live for the stage and love when the crowd goes wild, dancing, moshing, and crowd surfing. Give them a few drink vouchers, a bunch of bananas, a crate of beer, and their day is complete.BOTTLED VIOLENCE (NL)
Bottled Violence is a five-piece noise-punk band formed at Rock City Institute in Eindhoven that has been playing together for almost a year now. Live, they transform into a vast blur of harsh feedback, fuzz, screaming vocals, and loud drums. Their lyrics reveal that they hold clear opinions on society, covering topics such as monarchy, capitalism, and human rights. This was also evident in their performance at a housing rights protest in Eindhoven, as well as in performances in squats. The band’s inspirations can also be heard coming from Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, and Sonic Youth.

Todo Canto Every Voice Every Place by Luiza Ramos & Lucas Carrasco
Teatro Munganga, Thursday, July 2 at 08:00 PM GMT+2
Todo Canto – Every Voice, Every Place is a Brazilian music concert in which artists Luísa Ramos and Lucas Carrasco explore Brazilian and Latin American rhythms through a reduced and intimate musical formation.
The concert features original compositions and invites the audience into a poetic reflection on the relationship between human beings and nature. Through music, the project positions itself as an artistic response to the current environmental crisis and to the search for new ways of coexisting and inhabiting the world. Acoustic guitar, electric guitar with effects, and two voices come together to translate the percussive character of Latin rhythms into melodic and harmonic instruments. Through their performance, the artists create an immersive, sensitive, and engaging musical experience for the audience. Current Album
Luísa Ramos is preparing the release of her first original Brazilian music album, scheduled for the first half of 2026 and to be available on major digital platforms. The album shares the same title as the concert - “Todo Canto” — and uses Brazilian music as a central artistic tool to reflect on the current climate crisis. The tracks build diverse musical dynamics, alternating between delicate, introspective moments and intense, driving passages. Lyrics and arrangements poetically express the urgency of engaging with one of the most pressing issues of our time. Audio & Video

“They were only two, yet they sounded like an orchestra. Todo Canto in the truest sense of the word. Luísa Ramos’ compositions, singing, and guitar playing were brilliantly complemented by Lucas Carrasco on guitar. Thunderous applause, and if all goes well, they will return to the Waldarena in the summer. ” — Christian Salmhofer, Waldarena Artists Luísa Ramos (vocals, acoustic guitar) writes most of the duo’s compositions and sings with a versatile voice that ranges from soft and velvety to powerful and bright. Through her acoustic guitar, she establishes rhythmic foundations inspired by Brazilian and LatinAmerican music. Based in Brazil, she has a strong interest in sustainability and in the relationship between human beings and nature, themes that permeate her artistic work. Lucas Carrasco (electric guitar, vocals) contributes an electric guitar approach that explores a wide range of sonic effects, translating Latin rhythmic percussion into a melodic-harmonic instrument. His playing incorporates elements inspired by bass and Latin percussion instruments, while his vocal contributions add rhythmic layers that expand the duo’s sonic landscape. He is Brazilian and currently lives in Klagenfurt (Austria), where he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Jazz at the Gustav Mahler Private University (GMPU).https://offbeat.amsterdam/event/todo-canto-every-voice-every-place-by-luiza-ramos-and-lucas-carrasco

PÁ PUM! by percussionist Alaor Soares
Teatro Munganga, Sunday, May 31 at 11:00 AM GMT+2
On this day we will create a program where parents and children can meet, discover, and play together through music. We will transform the space into a big musical laboratory, where everyone participates
actively and explores sounds, rhythms, and movements in a free and playful way.
We will use buckets, shakers, and other simple percussion instruments that require no special technique and are easy for children of all ages to play. Everyone will receive an instrument. Parents will play an important role by using the larger instruments and creating a steady rhythmic foundation. This gives children the safety they need to improvise. When adults hold the pulse, the little ones feel freer to explore, invent, and express themselves — just like in life. The whole session will grow from improvisation, singing, clapping, and movements that come from the group’s energy. It won’t be a performance to watch, but a warm and interactive experience.
A moment where parents and children connect through sound, discover new ways of playing, and realize that music is always within reach. Sometimes all you need is a bucket, two sticks, and a bit of imagination to turn an ordinary moment into rhythm and joy. The workshop is led by Alaor Soares, a Brazilian professional musician, educator, and producer. As a freelancer, he works daily in different primary and secondary schools and teaches samba groups and teambuilding workshops. Alaor has extensive experience with various ages and groups and earned his first-degree teaching qualification in music education at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.https://offbeat.amsterdam/event/pa-pum-by-percussionist-alaor-soares

Círculo Celebration & Concert- Brazilian Candomblé and the Tradition of the Pristesses
Teatro Munganga, Sunday, June 14 at 05:00 PM GMT+2
This special event celebrates Orixá Oxalá, or Melatokan, an ancient force of nature and the oldest of all Orixás. The priestesses praise the prophecy that: ✨ The world will one day know one hundred years of peace, under the rule of children. ✨ This is our final and special celebration of the end of CÍRCULO 2026 edition. Our community, family, friends and everyone who feels called to celebrate with us is more than welcome. The evening is inspired by Festa do Divino, where the Caixeiras conduct month long ceremonies that culminate in the great day when children become emperors and empresses of the world for one symbolic year. This celebration lives within various Candomblé de Mina communities and Maroon peoples across Brazil, especially in the state of Maranhão. We begin with a public ceremony led by the priestesses and participants of the workshop series, singing litanies, chanting and drumming. We close the night with a powerful live concert by Zagaia, an encounter between Renata Amaral, Laetícia Madsen, Thomas Rohrer with invited guests. Long time collaborators, they also share the stage in the band A Barca. There will also be a public talk with Renata Amaral about her deep experience within Candomblé communities and traditional culture. Renata Amaral is an ethnomusicologist, filmmaker, double bassist and founder of Arquivo Maracá, with more than 30 CDs and 12 award winning documentaries dedicated to traditional Brazilian music, including the film Pedra da Memória, and decades of performances across Brazil and Europe. Laetícia Madsen, known through her symbolic character Maria Preá, is a singer from Maranhão with over 20 years of career, nominated for the Prêmio da Música Brasileira, member of A Barca and active caixeira in Divino festivals, currently creating her third album grounded in the power of drums and voice. About Zagaia: Tradition is the pragmatic expression of memory, serving as a reference and impetus for the future. Zagaia present their creative work in dialogue with Brazilian traditions. In this show, the musicians present pieces from the performances they create with their groups A Barca, Ponto br, Tambor da Mata, Terno de Mestre Biano, Orquestra Popular do Recife, and other dialogues they develop with masters of popular tradition, their communities and performers. Among Cocos, Bois, Carimbós, Jongos, Pontos and Congados, the vigor of the terreiros and batuques, the luminosity of the melodies and their inseparable relationship with a rhythmic and powerful prosody make the spectacle a unique experience. About Tulipa’s Society Tulipa’s Society Amsterdam and Teatro Munganga welcome you to a series of traditional singing and drumming workshops, alongside gatherings dedicated to sharing knowledge about Brazilian Candomblé and the tradition of priestesses. Housed at Teatro Munganga, Tulipa’s Society honours Zahar - a Vungira in the Brazilian Candomblé tradition.
It is inspired by Sociedade das Tulipas, a sisterhood based at Redandá Candomblé House in Cipó-Guaçú, São Paulo, which has been organising beneficent events for hospitals treating Wildfire disease and other causes since 1970. -

TURN OF PHRASE (UK) + COMPETE (AT) + 32 ELEPHANTS
OCCII, Thursday, May 21 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
World’s Appreciated Kitsch & Silent Call Collective present: TURN OF PHRASE (UK) + COMPETE (AT) + 32 ELEPHANTS
TURN OF PHRASE (00’s melodic hardcore, UK – Sunday Drive / Scheme Records)
Turn of Phrase formed in early 2025 between London and Brighton. The band brings a fresh shot of melodic-hardcore that pulls straight from ’90s post-hardcore and emo bands like Lifetime and Texas is the Reason, while channelling the speed and intensity of early-2000’s Posi Fest-era hardcore bands like Count Me Out, Panic, and Crime In Stereo.
Their five track demo, ‘Finish Just To Begin’ released earlier last year on Burning Water Records in the UK, is now being released for the first time in the US via Sunday Drive Records, while the band is about to release a new record via Scheme Records sooner or later.
https://turnofphrasehc.bandcamp.comCOMPETE (youth crew, AT – STTW Records)
Compete is a new band from Vienna, featuring both familiar and fresh faces from the Austrian HC scene. They deliver fast, high-energy Youth Crew bangers, without sounding cheesy. Something which most euro YC acts are not capable of.
FFO: Lockin’ Out, Free Spirit, or Euro bands like Rapture and Domain.
https://sttwrecords.bandcamp.com/album/demo-202532 ELEPHANTS (90s emo, NL)
Moves between emo and post-hardcore, combining melodic hooks, emotionally charged lyrics, and bursts of cathartic energy.
FFO early 2000s emo with a fresh hardcore edge.

TRAIDORA (UK) + ZUIDAS + MORE TBC
OCCII, Tuesday, June 23 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
TRAIDORA (UK, LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
Fast, crusty and queer – hardcore punx are here!
TRAIDORA started in early 2023 as the solo project of Eva Leblanc, a Venezuelan-born trans-woman immigrant, living in the UK. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who finds time to play experimental music, collaborate with Eve Libertine of CRASS, as well as being active in the local punk scene.
Traidora: Live at New River Studios, London.
She released a seven-track demo “Un Cuerpo Trans Lleno de Odio” (“A Trans Body Full of Hate”), since issued as 7” via Disforia Records, Metadona and Rock Svb, of raw electronic-drums hardcore-punk sang in Spanish, bringing to the table her personal experience as a Latin American trans-feminist, living in an oppressive society. TRAIDORA has played relentlessly both in UK and abroad, with different line ups, but always bringing an uncompromising political hardcore punk to the stage. Against all odds, both to receptive and not-so-receptive audiences.
Fast forward to 2025 and with a steady line-up made up of four queer people, TRAIDORA enter Bear Bite Horse Studios to record their first full length. The result – heavily influenced by the hardest side of Latin American punk – is thirteen blasts of sharp and blown-up crude hardcore punk. Sonically sitting somewhere between DROP DEAD, MASACRE 68 and LOS CRUDOS. With Eva singing in Spanish about morality, gender, borders, Palestine or local Mapuche struggles with a strong trans-feminist immigrant message.+ MORE TBA

If you like some nasty metallic hardcore punk à la WARTHOG, ELECTRIC CHAIR, and FAIRYTALE, you’ll dig this. Lead singer Lulu delivers frantic vocals over crunchy guitars and furious hardcore beats, letting up on the gas exactly zero times throughout the entirety of the show.INSIDE JOB (Haarlem)
Not sure what’s in the water in Haarlem, but it’s producing younger and gnarlier members of the H-Town hardcore scene. Leave the venue with significantly fewer brain cells than you came in with! From members of Achterlicht and Waterschade, get blasted with intense riffs and D-beat raw energy.CONTROLLED ILLUSION (Amsterdam)

PALE SPEKTRE (DE) + PELOROUS (DE) + BLOED
OCCII, Friday, May 29 at 08:30 PM GMT+2

One of Amsterdam’s most recent regurgitations will initiate the night. Groovy and abrasive black death cascading over the impure. No agenda. No trve kvlt bullshit. Only heartfelt hostility.

HANDLE (UK) + KANIPCHEN-FIT + DJ STEVE
HANDLE (UK, Absolute Fiction/Upset! The Rhythm)
HANDLE incorporate a diverse range of influences, from samba to no wave. Handle, a three-piece from Manchester (now based between Manchester/London/Brussels) make a uniquely minimal sound, buoyed by poetic, urgent vocals. Each instrument (bass, drums, keyboard and voice) is permitted its own space, yet somehow the result is a brilliantly unified yet understated sonic experience that demands then commands your attention
Handle is made up of Giulio Erasmus and Nirvana Heire (former members of D.U.D.S) and Leo Hermitt, a genderqueer multidisciplinary artist, renowned for their challenging, thought-provoking work on the city’s arts and literary scenes.

GLENN JONES (US) + LIAM GRANT (US) + 1 MORE TBA
OCCII, Friday, October 30 at 08:30 PM GMT+1
An evening full of raw American Primitive fingerpicking
Double bill: Glenn Jones & Liam Grant + 1 More TBA
Glenn Jones is a master of American Primitive Guitar, a style invented in the late 1950s by John Fahey. Jones, who led the post-rock ensemble Cul de Sac, brings his own made-up tunings, the use of custom-crafted partial capos, and a highly skilled picking style on both banjo and guitar, to create personal compositions that are lyrical, emotive and elegant.
https://glennjones.bandcamp.com/music
Liam Grant (Boston, MA) is a New England guitarist with a punk ethos, cut from the American Primitive cloth. The restless guitar explorations, modal epics and driving uptempo rags recall the likes of Grant‘s pedagogue: Takoma Records and the path that was paved by his forebears John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Peter Walker, Max Ochs and later Glenn Jones, Steffen Basho-Junghans, Jack Rose, and others.
https://liamgrant.bandcamp.com
Glenn Jones first made a name for himself with the ‘rock band’ Cul De Sac, a band that played with Can-singer Damo Suzuki more often than Can itself. Since then, he has become one of the most important American Primitive guitarists of the 21st century.
Over the course of ten albums, Jones has developed an undeniably unique fingerstyle voice. His music forms a deeply personal melodic grammar: witty, reflective and rooted in memory. Sketches of Fahey, his friendship with John Jackson, early visits to 78 rpm collector Joe Bussard and his bond with Jack Rose all leave their mark on his work.
Equally present are the tender portraits of his mother, Nora Smith, and the small anchor points in daily life, such as his beloved cats. Jones’ compositions feel like living memories, shaped by curiosity, dedication and the fleeting beauty of everyday life.
Over the years, he has remained a vital figure in the underground scene, someone who continually refines and reinvents the steel-string tradition. His pieces carry emotional power without sentimentality and are anchored in experience, yet always open to surprise.
Liam Grant draws deeply from the landscape in which he grew up: memoires of the Merrimack, Amoskeag and the waters flowing toward the great flood of Dead River. He has toured extensively in the US and beyond since 2021 and regularly works with Glenn Jones and fiddler Mike Gangloff.
His debut album Amoskeag (2023) confirmed his place as a rising voice within the steel-string tradition. His album Prodigal Son (2025, VHF Records) – a lo-fi statement for 12 string, 6 string and lap steel guitar – was praised by NPR’s Viking’s Choice and featured among The Quietus’ and Wilco’s favourite albums of 2025.
Grant’s collaborations include releases with Gangloff, Sam Shalabi and members of The Three-Top Serenaders, as well as contributions to compilations like The Sun Is Not True. He is among the young players revitalising the American Primitive vocabulary, still rooted in tradition but driven by curiosity and shaped by the rivers and history of New England.

BIG|BRAVE (CA) + A TABLE & A CHAIR (Aart-Jan Schakenbos (The Julie Mittens) and Arvind Ganga)
OCCII, Monday, May 25 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
OCCII proudly presents: BIG|BRAVE (CAN, Thrill Jockey)
With the initial seeds planted in 2012, with no other goal than simply experimenting with the instruments in their possession, Robin Wattie and Mathieu Ball started writing subtle ambient/minimalistic folk songs together. When long time friend Louis Alexandre Beauregard joined on drums, the goal still remained to play as tranquil as possible. After an incident where Wattie’s acoustic guitar broke, and having borrowed a friend’s electric as a replacement, larger amps that Ball had in storage from previous bands started to get incorporated to the outfit. Now with amplitude as a compositional tool, B|B never lost interest in the power of minimalism and fragility. It became clear that loud volume would become just as effective as the lowest possible ones and the juxtaposition of both would become something B|B still uses as their main MO to this day.
After self-releasing Feral Verdure in 2014, the band had the opportunity to open for Thee Silver Mt Zion in Montreal QC. After which, Efrim Manuel Menuck found something meaningful in the members and the band and invited them to open on future shows with Mt Zion and with Godspeed! You Black Emperor.
In 2015, the band entered the studio with Menuck and recorded “Au De La”. With no home for the record, they decided to take a chance in writing to Southern Lord. As luck would have it, Greg Anderson happened upon their email among hundreds and responded. Since then, the band has had a home with Southern Lord Records. (Along with Au De La, Southern Lord has released Ardor in 2017, A Gaze Among Them in 2019 and VITAL in 2021).
After Beauregard’s departure in 2018, the band travelled down to Rhode Island with Loel Campbell on drums to make a first record with Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets. After the album’s release, with Campbell unable to tour, Tasy Hudson joined the ranks and the band spent most of the year touring their 2019 album “A Gaze Among Them”.
Since their inception, the band has had many honours and privileges of touring a number of times in North America and Europe with bands such as Sunn O))), MY DISCO, The Body, Thou, Primitive Man and Thee Silver Mt. Zion. In late spring 2024, the new album “A Chaos Of Flowers” has been released on Thrill Jockey Records.

“a table and a chair” is the new electric guitar duo of Aart-Jan Schakenbos (The Julie Mittens) and Arvind Ganga that explores colliding overtones and the melodies, harmonies and rhythms that emerge from them. Two guitars tumbling over and spinning around each other, creating massive structures as they go.
Made with guitars, but definitely not guitar music. With decades of combined experience in underground music Aart-Jan & Arvind fluidly combine avant-garde techniques with folk antics into a universal primal resonance.

DEAD BOB (CA, JOHN WRIGHT // NO MEANS NO) + SUPPORT TBA
OCCII, Sunday, September 27 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
“NothinG Chances Everything Tour ’26”! – DEAD BOB (CA, JOHN WRIGHT // NO MEANS NO) + SUPPORT TBA
Dead Bob is the solo incarnation of John Wright, drummer of long time and apparently legendary, but now retired, Canadian punk band No Means No (NMN). Wright has spent 50 years drumming, 45 years songwriting, 30 years touring, three years helping robots play punk rock, 30 years brewing, and a lifetime playing music – in more bands than you can count on one hand.
Currently practising drums, working on the next two albums and having a beer, Wright is not planning on slowing down any time soon. The material on “Life Like” spans decades and there’s lots more in the vault. The album was recorded and produced by Wright in the wilds of British Columbia and while he primarily wrote and performed it himself, he can’t take all of the credit, having engaged the help of several friends inclding Byron Slack (Invasives), Kristy Lee Audette (Rong), Ford Pier (Ford Pier and the Vengeance Trio, DOA, Roots Round up, Junior Gone Wild, Rheostatics), Selina Martin, his son Aidan Wright, as well as two old collaborations with his brother Rob in the writer’s chair.
As might be expected, the songs roll out cohesively but defy the cookie cutter pigeon holes, hence “Genre” is a tough one to convey but one thing that is not unclear is it is not to be listened to quietly! We aim to make sure you hear it all good and loud!
