Indie noir from the artist who found it's voice againSoak bracht in 2015 haar debuutalbum 'Before We Forget How to Dream' uit; Dit album won zowel de Choice Music Prize als de Northern Ireland Music Prize en werd genomineerd voor de Mercury Music Prize. Ook de volgende albums, 'Grim Town' en 'If I Never Know You Like This Again', konden rekenen op lovende kritieken. De band heeft uitgebreid getoerd door de VS en Europa en trad op tijdens prestigieuze festivals als Glastonbury, SXSW, Primavera en Other Voices; Daarnaast verzorgd ze het voorprogramma voor Julien Bakers concertreeks in Londen en toerden ze met onder meer Modest Mouse en Lucy Dacus.
Soaks vierde album, 'decembers', ontstond in letterlijke stilte. Door een auto-immuunziekte die onmogelijk maakte, was het juist de afwezigheid van geluid de basisvorm voor het tot nu toe meest opvallende album., zowel qua geluid als teksten, van de artiest uit Derry.

Folk and r&b artist sings about the big questionsAs a queer Black musician and the daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Joy Oladokun has emerged as a significant cultural voice; she writes songs that explore themes such as identity, faith, mental health, and social justice with honesty and restraint. These themes lie at the heart of 'Hope Is A Heavy Thing', her new album. Produced by Oladokun herself, with additional contributions from Nigerian producer Spellz and a guest appearance by Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold. The album marks a bold new creative chapter. She expands her sound while continuing to explore questions of identity, resilience, and belonging with the emotional depth that has become her trademark. Moreover, the project reflects her ability to draw on diverse influences and create music that transcends both genres and geographical boundaries.

Commercial fishermen, tribal leaders, educators, and young families confront a future marked by economic uncertainty, land loss, and increasingly powerful storms. Yet even as the landscape changes around them, they continue to rebuild homes, revive traditions, and pass hard-earned knowledge from one generation to the next.
Filmed over two years in the bayous of southern Louisiana, On High Water: Holding Ground on a Vanishing Coast is the latest film from the award-winning team at Bertelsmann Foundation Documentaries. As communities around the world face the consequences of rising waters and the possibility of losing the land they call home, the film raises questions that reach far beyond the Louisiana coast. After the screening, we will speak with the director about the film and the communities at its heart.
