Having a hard time focusing? Burnt out? Or do you have all your shit together and want to help the rest of us figure ours out? Looking for that support group that doesn't exist because it would need folks with executive dysfunction to organize it? (Ha. Haha. Ha ha HAHAHAHA) Then come down to the Cambridge Public Library, this Sunday (05-19) at 1:00 PM and we'll meet in the front lawn and figure out what we all need and how we can support each other and build accountability. I don't want to scare folks off by giving prep-work, but please come with something to write or take notes with, physical or digital is fine, and 3-5 goals you would like to work on with the help of a group or a partner. "Extreme heat warnings and watches are in effect from the Midwest to the Southeast with heat index temperatures expected between 108 and 116.
"More than 200 million people across from #SouthDakota to #Florida and up the #EastCoast to #Boston are on alert for widespread, dangerous heat on Monday and into the new work week, and parts of the Southeast could experience the brunt of the sweltering conditions.
"On average, nearly 2,000 Americans die from extreme heat each year, according to CDC data going back to 2020.
"The highest temperatures on Monday will be focused in the southeast, from the Carolinas to Florida, where extreme heat indices -- that is, what the temperatures feel like when humidity is factored in -- are forecast to be between 105 and 115 degrees.
"Parts of Mississippi and Louisiana are on alert for heat indices up to 120 degrees.
"#ExtremeHeat is also expected to continue on Monday and Tuesday in the Midwest, where over the weekend temperatures felt between 97 to 111 degrees from Lincoln, Nebraska, up into Minneapolis.
"Extreme heat warnings have been issued for large cities from Iowa to Florida, including New Orleans, Memphis, St. Louis, Omaha, Des Moines, Savannah, Raleigh, Charleston and Sioux Falls. These areas could see feels-like temperatures between 110 to 115 degrees.
"The Northeast coast from Philadelphia to Boston, including New York City, is in store for multiple days of dangerous heat. Heat indices in the Northeast are forecast to make it feel like the mid-90s to 104 on Monday.
"In addition to the sweltering conditions, smoke from Canadian wildfires is expected to continue to create hazy conditions in New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut. Over the weekend, smoke from those wildfires prompted an air-quality alert. Another plume of smoke could reach the I-95 corridor on Tuesday afternoon.
"Looking ahead to the work week, potentially life-threatening heat and humidity are expected to continue across the eastern half of the country through Wednesday. Major cities including St. Louis, Memphis, Charlotte, Savannah, Tampa and Jackson, Mississippi, are all likely all see actual temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s.
"A prolonged heat wave is forecast for those regions as an abundance of tropical moisture settling in is expected to drive the feels-like temperatures up to between 105 to 115 degrees over multiple consecutive days.
Dangerous heat and humidity through Thursday."Nighttime and early mornings are not expected to provide relief from the sweltering conditions. Overnight and early morning lows are expected to fall only to the 70s or higher.
"Between Monday and Wednesday, large portions of the Southeast are expected to be under an extreme heat risk at a four-out-of-four level, including the cities of Atlanta, Charlotte, and Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Florida.
"On Sunday, #TampaFL, broke an all-time heat record -- reaching 100 degrees for the first time in 130 years of record-keeping.
"Besides the extreme heat, parts of the Midwest, including South Dakota and western Minnesota, are expecting potentially destructive winds of more than 75 mph on Monday evening. A few severe storms are also expected to roll through North Dakota on Monday evening and spread into Minnesota and Iowa on Monday night."

'As we arrived on campus this morning we could smell quite a bit of smoke. There’s always initial concern but we made it clear that the fire is not the danger.'
"According to the Environmental Protection Agency's #AirNow Fire and Smoke Map, air quality in Lynn had reached #HazardousLevels - over 300 PPM - early Tuesday morning, the worst alert level listed and considered an emergency. As of mid-morning it had dropped into the 'very unhealthy' level - between 201 to 300 PM - a category where the risk of health effects is increased for everyone. Levels may fluctuate depending on the fires and weather conditions. The public is advised to limit outdoor activities when possible.
"This is the second day of air quality concerns from the fire. On Monday the smell of smoke was strong all over the #Boston area due to a weather phenomenon called #inversion. That's when warm air traps cool air and smoke close to the ground, and that can be a concern for air quality because #wildfire smoke has been shown to carry #pollutants."

I've never heard of that product, unless you mean ShotSpotter or Flock gunshot detection microphones that happen to be mounted on street lights, in which case sure, that's what what we're fighting. #CambridgeMA has #ShotSpotter mounted in certain (demographically predictable) neighborhoods, and we want them to take it down.
But it's also possible that there's another product I don't know about, so do let me know if you know more!

Les clés de la réussite
Pour ses clés USB bootables, l’ALDIL utilise Ventoy. Cela permet d’avoir plusieurs images d’installation sur une même clé. Pratique pour tester différentes versions ou variantes avant d’installer sans jongler avec les clés. Pratique aussi pour préparer les clés à l’avance sans limiter les choix au moment des forums d’entraide et install parties.
Pour une clé « simple » : La commande dd sous GNU/Linux ou Rufus en mode « dd » sous Windows, sont des valeurs sûres.
À savoir : plusieurs distributions GNU/Linux sont livrées avec un outil de création de clé bootable, notamment :
- Ubuntu : Cherchez « USB » ou « Créateur de disque de démarrage » dans les applications
- Mageia : Allez dans « Centre de Contrôle de Mageia / Système / Écrire des images ISO sur un périphérique USB… » (Attention, l’option de partition persistante est à reserver aux clés Mageia.)
