  1. The Service Industry

I always think of the waiters, bartenders, cooks, hotel workers, + others that work on holidays ...

In the 1920s Chaïm Soutine, a Russian immigrant to France, painted a series of portraits of the over-looked staff working in the most fashionable places of leisure.

    Happy Labor Day

  11. Tired of rude medical staff? As a private chef with sarcoidosis + heart failure, I’ve learned silence protects my peace. Staying calm changed my life, my work, and even led to a management job. #Sarcoidosis #ChronicIllness #HeartFailure #ServiceIndustry #PrivateChef

  15. Barista Android
These popular variants of the service industry android worked for many popular coffee shop chains. They were exceptionally knowledgeable about the varieties of coffee, tea and pastries, masters at an espresso bar machine, and maintained a friendly, customer focused disposition even when overworked and the lineup was out the shop’s door.

  16. Do You Want Fries with That a Service Industry Android
Among the most common androids ever made were the fast food variants, many of whom had skin pigmentation in the logo colors of the company that purchased them, although their plastic skin is usually incomplete and most exhibit purposely visible joint seams, servo motor and access panels. Many were made without legs, and instead moved about the front counter at a burger joint or pizza house on a track. They are almost always built to look like teenagers and have the same mannerisms and vocal range of humans aged 14 to 19.

  17. Buckle up for take 2!

Hey #Boston, #Cambridge, #Somerville #neurodivergent, #ADHD and those dealing with #ExecutiveDysfunction! I'm doing a thing next Sunday! Body Doubling and Support Group! Cambridge Public Library! 10:00 AM Sunday May 26th!

Having a hard time focusing? Burnt out? Or do you have all your shit together and want to help the rest of us figure ours out? Looking for that support group that doesn't exist because it would need folks with executive dysfunction to organize it? (Ha. Haha. Ha ha HAHAHAHA) Then come down to the Cambridge Public Library, this Sunday (05-19) at 1:00 PM and we'll meet in the front lawn and figure out what we all need and how we can support each other and build accountability. I don't want to scare folks off by giving prep-work, but please come with something to write or take notes with, physical or digital is fine, and 3-5 goals you would like to work on with the help of a group or a partner. To give you an idea of what I am talking about, here are mine:

    1)Job hunt!

    2)Learn HTML/CSS/website building!

    3)Photo cataloguing!

    4)Studying for career training!

    5)Woodworking!

If this Sunday doesn't work for you, PLEASE let me know in the comments and we'll try to get a better time for session 3 that can include more folks (My #ServiceIndustry #FellowWorkers I'm looking at you).

  18. Tipping in the US is broken. You're expected to pay up in order to save face, or know whether or not the state you happen to be in has sub-minimum wages and how "sub" they are.

Just pay people a proper wage and leave tipping for service you think was worth tipping for!

  19. @Walker For as long as I have been going there, the operator does multiple laps in a band around the outside. That's where everyone skates, and the ice gets really chewed up. The center sees very little use.

He's not lazy, stupid, incompetent and an alcoholic, etc. You're an #classist #techbro who thinks that because he's good with computers and makes a bunch of money, he knows more than blue collar workers.

Stop punching down. This country is already brutal as hell to #serviceindustry people.

  20. As a former chef, a big shout out to all the service workers who are working today making others holiday special giving up their own.

Please tip extra well and don't forget the kitchen crew. But most of all be appreciative and kind.

I think you answered your own question there, ma’am.

Ridiculous that we even have to ask, but here we are.

  23. Just got done work and after tip out I’m walking with ~$130. My first thought was “oh man killer night!, best I’ve had in a while!” And then my second thought was how sad that < $150 is my current definition of a “killer night.” Oh well. It’s only for the summer and then we rebid our shifts
