Man, #systemd #networkd really could use some support for #UPnP and #PCP port forwarding AND esp. IPv6 perimeter firewall port opening. You know a kind of daemon that keeps the port mapping (IPv4) or firewall port opening (mainly IPv6 or some server IPv4) active and renewing as long as the service using it is still running.

So anyway dual WAN failover on the #NETGEAR #PR60X requires disabling #UPnP & #SQM, as well setting connection health check interval to 10s instead of 5.

I'm having trouble accessing the UPnP/DLNA media service from my NAS on my Linux PC. Anyone any idea what might be wrong?

➡️ VLC on iPhone can see the UPnP service just fine
➡️ Dolphin, VLC and Kodi on the PC can see the SMB shares of my NAS
➡️ VLC and Kodi on the PC can *not* see the UPnP service

Things I tried that did not make a difference:

➡️ Install VLC from Flathub instead of my distro's RPM package
➡️ Disable IPv6 in the PC's network settings
➡️ Add upnp-client to the allowlist of the PC's firewall
➡️ (Update) Connect PC directly to router instead of through eth switch

Ce matin, je me disais que j'allais me débarasser de Spotify (parce que j'écoute essentiellement de la musique quand je travaille de chez moi, et que dans ce cas je peux faire de l'UPnP). Hélas ! J'utilise Plex comme serveur UPnP, et je tombe pile dans ce bug !

#Homelab #update - I got #IPFire installed o my #RaspberryPi #router and suddenly all outgoing traffic is blocked. I am happy that I have literally add the devices to the green network to make things but now I am questioning what kind of firewall was already present in #OpenWRT where everything 'just worked'? Apparently #UPnP is such a big security hole. I am stuck without some services but am forced to learn #NetSec so liking it.

I'm looking for a way to make a media player on Linux output to a UPnP MediaRenderer device on the local network, in the same way that you can using this Foobar2000 extension: https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_upnp
The point is to be able to browse a local music collection via a laptop and have the sound come out of the hifi system.

I think this might be the last thing I need to entirely replace Windows as the sole OS on my personal laptop.

Что больше всего бесит при первом запуске устройств с управлением по Ethernet? Необходимость его искать в сети с использованием зоопарка из подходов. Тут используются программы автопоиска (например Winbox для MikroTik), дефолтные IP адреса (все эти 192.168.1.1, 192.168.100.1, 192.168.2.1 - кто во что горазд). Иногда надо со смартфона показывать QR коды в камеру устройства или передавать настройки тональными сигналами в микрофон. Мы задались целью найти стандарт для поиска устройств в сети и внедрить его в свои устройства на основе микроконтроллеров и/или одноплатных компьютеров. Это статья о стандартах, их особенностях, преодолённых трудностях и об открытом коде, который мы написали для себя и считаем лучшей в мире открытой реализацией SSDP сервера и клиента.

Dear Lazyfedi, what #DLNA / #UPnP server should I run on my Linux box?

I want my hifi to stream music from my computer. Last week I was happily using 'ushare', but then I upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 and ushare vanished.

I want one that doesn't _just_ give me a fixed artist/album/track hierarchy based on ID3 tags, but also lets me make a custom set of playlist files. In a lunchtime of trying I haven't managed that with Rygel or miniDLNA.

Should I try harder at one of those, or run something else?

It is a neighbor for sure. And they do not have #UPnP disabled on their #WIFI router that they have their supposedly smart tv connected to.

They probably have ipV6 enabled also which you do not need on your Home LAN.
