You know a kind of daemon that keeps the port mapping (IPv4) or firewall port opening (mainly IPv6 or some server IPv4) active and renewing as long as the service using it is still running.

  6. Discovered that when you want #PCP gateway auto discovery to work properly you're NOT allowed to use an IPv6-LL as your gateway. It has to be a GUA.

    Why? Because the library (libpcpnatpmp) does a scope check and it won't even send the request to open a port in the perimeter firewall when it doesn't match. And well IPv6-LL has a non-zero scope where as GUAs do have scope id 0.

    I mean other methods to get the same result e.g. UDP hole punching and such exist. So disallowing PCP by default just makes the user experience worse.

    Do you think there is any benefit in having it default to disabled?

    After all, malicious software does find ways to tunnel out, nothing enables PCP on accident, and your router usually gives you a nice overview of ports opened this way.
    The only caveat is that you're not guaranteed to get the same port, but on #IPv6 it's a reasonable assumption nonetheless. (On v4 obviously not, but HTTPS/#SVCB records to the rescue).
