Having recently installed @jellyfin instead of emby, I have to say: It's really fucking cool(*)!

(*) IFF you use a Jellyfin client (web, mobile). I did intall the DLNA plugin, but it's severely lacking compared to embys. Most annoyingly, it won't work properly with my IDontKnowHowOld Pioneer radio (emby worked fine).

Sooo, suggestions for a radio with:
- FM and DAB
- DLNA
- Small frame, must fit easily on an already crowded shelf
- Remote control
- (optional) Home Assistant

Main additions:

For some reason, I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of #DLNA.

I’ve been tinkering with the idea of an off-grid setup for when electricity or internet is down and built around my GL.iNet Slate AX travel router.

Sure, it’s not #plex or #jellyfin but it’s close enough when it can be run for days/weeks off a battery bank.

Hoping that Sunday is a better day for asking #selfhosted support questions, cos I really want to get #jellyfin playing out of 'the big speakers' and I need #DLNA to do that.

My networking skills are weak I'm afraid so even just troubleshooting this issue is a challenge!

I've got @jellyfin #jellyfin running on a @yunohost server (and generally working pretty well) but I can't see my #DLNA endpoint from it (plugin installed and enabled etc). The endpoint is #GmediaRender on a Nanopi Neo and I can see (and play to) it from BubbleUpnP on my phone.

I think I might have to do some sort of 'hairpin nat' thing with my router, but my network skills are weak.

Can anyone set me in the right direction please?

Am I missing something obvious as to why I can't see my #gmediarender #dlna endpoint from @jellyfin in @yunohost ?

I've added ports 1900 and 7359 to the #yunohost firewall (as per the guidance from the installer) but I can't see the end point.

With #jellyfin on my phone on the same network I can see the version open in the browser in 'play on' but I'm not getting gmediarender (which I have had working really well before).

I'm having trouble accessing the UPnP/DLNA media service from my NAS on my Linux PC. Anyone any idea what might be wrong?

➡️ VLC on iPhone can see the UPnP service just fine
➡️ Dolphin, VLC and Kodi on the PC can see the SMB shares of my NAS
➡️ VLC and Kodi on the PC can *not* see the UPnP service

Things I tried that did not make a difference:

➡️ Install VLC from Flathub instead of my distro's RPM package
➡️ Disable IPv6 in the PC's network settings
➡️ Add upnp-client to the allowlist of the PC's firewall
➡️ (Update) Connect PC directly to router instead of through eth switch

Seriously, am I the only person running #upmpdcli with #mpd on #RaspberryPi as a #DLNA renderer on various devices round the house? I'm still very confused by the whole songcast thing, and also how to integrate snapcast receiver function into it.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to connect to a renderer and choose between upmpdcli playback or snapcast receiver.

Even with a project this nerdy, surprised I haven't met any fellow users on this fine fedi.

Übrigens: Wer im Heimnetz gerne DLNA nutzt, wird Hi-fi Cast auf seinem Android lieben.

Damit kann man DLNA Quellen und Senken beliebig verbinden. So kann ich beispielsweise etwas von meinem Plex Server auf meinem Yamaha Verstärker abspielen und dabei die Wiedergabe vom Handy aus steuern.

Oder Tracks von meinem Handy (lokal) auf dem Verstärker abspielen. Oder etwas vom Plex auf die Bluetooth-Kopfhörer streamen, die mit dem Handy verbunden sind.

Das Ding ist einfach klasse!

@le_friwi_56 I use Strawberry on a small PC next to my old Pioneer A-400X amp, driving old Mission 760SE speakers. The AV kit is over 30 years old and while good for it's price in it's day, it was never the best possible. But it works.

I have all my music ripped to #FLAC and then available via #NFSv4 to any computer in the house, and also via a #DLNA server.

I want my hifi to stream music from my computer. Last week I was happily using 'ushare', but then I upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 and ushare vanished.

I want one that doesn't _just_ give me a fixed artist/album/track hierarchy based on ID3 tags, but also lets me make a custom set of playlist files. In a lunchtime of trying I haven't managed that with Rygel or miniDLNA.

Should I try harder at one of those, or run something else?

Current bench project: converting this old RCA Victor into a web radio/DLNA renderer (ie. Chromecast-type streaming receiver). #DLNA already works.

The little dingi in front of it are test prints to hold rotary encoders, and they need to fit snugly into the holes in the radio.

The three knobs will control on/vol, radio tuning, and #FluxCapacitor (low-pass filter for year of music's release)

Alright, fiddled some more with it, and now got the #Revision2020 stream running a bit more stable on my #PS3 by streaming it from @Siiw's #Windows PC, rather than from my phone.

This way we can more easily have it on in the background, while still using the PC for other stuff. :)

@Truck well, I got #streamlink piping into #ffmpeg, streaming into #goRtmpServer, playing through #VLC, all on my #Android phone using #Termux.
Now to find a way to get that #RTMP stream onto my #PS3. Possibly through #DLNA via #UniversalMediaServer on the #Windows PC.
