I was out back, in the oak tree's shade, working long tones on the curvy soprano, and I saw the shadow of a bird. A catbird, curious, was hopping his way down the low branches just above me, to see what was this strange sound.

Not the first time. I remember being inspected by a hummingbird when playing straight soprano on the patio a few year's ago.

And it was always my dog's favorite.

Spent some time with the soprano, and later, the tenor (I guess it's Bb day today), working through some early 20th century tonalities discussed in Alex Ross' "The Rest is Noise": diminished seventh, resolving in different directions.

Those Austrian guys sure loved tritones. Gawd I love tenor.
